Episode 1

What!? A New Sailor Senshi appears!

なに!?あたらしセーラー戦士をでる!

The flames rose all around her. It was horrible…the cries of the dying and the dead rang in her bloodied ears. Looking up, she saw the shadows of four others. Her friends, her comrades. She reached out towards them, through the flames…when two chains suddenly sprung out and…

“Mister Smithson...MISTER SMITHSON!” Matt bolted upright at the sound of his teacher’s voice. “Are you planning on sleeping through my lesson once more?” Matt shook his head no, and the teacher went back to explaining something Matt could barely concentrate on. He felt a nudge at his arm and looked over. A girl with curly brown hair and a soft smile looked at him, concerned. “Hey…are you ok, Matt?” It was Ellie Brown. Matt had known her since kindergarten and she had always stuck by him as one of his best friends. “Yeah…Yeah I’ll be just fine. I guess I just didn’t get enough sleep last night”. He felt another nudge at his other arm and looked over. He was greeted by a lanky looking guy with messy green hair. Peter O’Dale, another friend of his, though he had only met him in his last year of junior high. “Reading the mags again, eh, Matt???” Peter was answered by a book slamming down on top of his head. “Knock it off, Peter! You know Matt doesn’t read those sorts of things!” “oooow! You didn’t have to hit me like that though!!! Crazy woman!” That word was all it took for it to snowball into an all out fight between the two, with the teacher trying her best to separate them. Meanwhile, Matt quietly walked over to the window and gazed out, thinking about his dreams. “….comrades….”

The darkness was all encompassing, except for one island of matter seeming to float slowly in the swirling void. In the midst of this island stood an imposing black throne, from which a shadowy figure sat. Before this figure, dark mists coalesced into a singular individual. He stood slowly, his short green hair blowing in an invisible wind and his piercing red eyes glowing malevolently. He wore about him a loose fitting short black leather coat, decorated with metal juts and tight leather pants, also colored black. “FARIS….THE TIME HAS COME” A voice boomed out from the void, female but filled with venom in each word. “Yes, mistress…” Faris answered in response, kneeling before the figure. “MY POWERS HAVE RETURNED ENOUGH TO OPEN A SMALL GATEWAY TO THE OTHERSIDE….YOU KNOW YOUR MISSON!” “I do…I shall gather energy from the humans…to power the gateway for your return” As Faris looked over, a dark arch made from black stone and covered in strange forbidding glyphs appeared before them. “Then you shall once more be free, my mistress.” Faris smiled at these words. The shadowy figure nodded her head. “THEN GO, MY SERVENT AND RETURN WITH THE PRECIOUS LIFEFORCE I NEED!” With those words, Faris turned and faded into a dark mist. The mist soon deposited him high above the city, which he scanned with his crimson eyes. “There. That will be of use.” He said, his words dripping like honey from his lips. He held out his hand, and from it, black smoke and flames coalesced into an equally black crystal. Holding it between his fingers, he aimed it towards a section of the city and flicked it. Shooting like a dark comet through the air, the crystal stuck its target with a silent thud, landing in the center of a pile of debris and dirt which stood in the center of a large construction site. Smiling to himself, Faris hung in the air and waited.

“Did you feel that?”The woman turned to her companion, her voice tinged with concern. Her companion gently put a hand on her hand, giving it a slight squeeze. “Maybe…” She said, but smiled. “But let’s enjoy our time here. Remember why we came.” The woman gently smiled, putting her companion’s hand to her cheek. “Yes…I remember” Her companion returned a gentle smile and turned to look forward once more.

Matt breathed a sigh of relief to himself. The day was finally over, and he could leave behind all the stress of the school where it belonged. “Hey! Matt!!! Wait up!” Matt turned to see Ellie and Peter running up after him. Matt gave a weak smile as they caught up with him. “Are you alright, Matt? You’ve been acting weird all day.” Ellie said, concern visible on her face. Peter put a hand on Matt’s shoulder, nodding. “It was the magazines, wasn’t it?” Peter yelped as Ellie grabbed him by the ear and pulled him over forcefully. “I TOLD YOU, MATT DOESN’T READ THOSE SORTS OF THINGS!!!” “Got it! Ow ow Got it!!!” Ellie let go of Peter’s ear, turning her attention back to Matt. “Matt…please tell me what’s wrong” Matt sighed and forced a smile “Nothing…it’s just the weather. I’ll be fine.” Ellie looked slightly confused by this. “Are you sure?” Peter put a hand on Ellie’s shoulder “Hey, he said he’s fine, El! Just let him go and read his ma…” Peter trailed off as Ellie gave him a death glare. “I’ll see you two later...” Matt smiled to both of them and started to walk away down the street towards his home. “….Matt…” Ellie worriedly watched him as he disappeared down the road.

Matt’s smile slowly vanished as he continued his walk, his mind drifting back to the visions and dreams he had these recent weeks. There was more to it than that though. He had felt just plain empty inside lately. As if some crucial piece was missing. He rubbed his forehead in frustration. “Maybe I should just go home and lay down. Maybe that would be the best thing to do. Get my mind off all of this…yeah…that’s what I’ll do!” Matt smiled to himself as he quickened his pace. Starting today, he thought to himself, things were going to change!! His thoughts were interrupted, as well as his motion, as he slammed into someone and tumbled backwards. As he attempted to regain his attentions, a voice carefully spoke out. “Are you alright? You should be more careful.” Matt looked up and saw a figure standing before him. He or as Matt realized after a second look she was tall, taller than him and wore a green jacket buttoned up enough to show the red tie and white shirt underneath, as well as brown slacks and dark brown shoes. Her short dusty blond hair blew in the wind as she offered her hand to him. “Here, let me help you up.” She said, slowly and deliberately (She must have been Japanese he thought to himself due to her accent). Matt grabbed hold of the girl’s hand and as he did, his mind was set afire with the visions that had haunted his dreams. Stumbling forward, he grabbed hold of the girl’s arm to steady himself. “My my…you are rather forward aren’t you?” Matt looked over, to see another girl standing next to a rather expensive looking car. This girl had long turquoise hair and sea green eyes to match. Her mode of dress was a black top with a long green skirt. Matt could barely keep his eyes off her. “You can let me go now I think” Matt looked up at the blond haired girl and quickly moved away. “I’m s-s-s-s-sorry!” he sputtered out. The blond simply smiled and looked over at her companion. The blue hair walked over to Matt, looking him in the eyes. “Are you from around here?” Matt gulped and nodded. The girl moved back towards the car and over to her companion. “He can be our tour guide.” The blond looked back towards Matt and then to her blue haired friend. “Why do we need a guide?” The blue hair put a hand to the blond’s cheek, a move that made Matt just stare. “We have been driving around this city for nearly an hour; it is always helpful to have a guide for a vacation, now is it not?” The blond smiled and looked back towards Matt. “What’s your name?” Matt gulped, he still couldn’t keep his eyes off either of them. “Matt…Matt Smithson…” The blond gave Matt another grin. “My name is Haruka Tenou and this is my companion Michiru Kaioh.” The blue haired girl gave a bow “Nice to meet you.” “So, Matt Smithson, do you care to be our tour guide?” Matt looked at both and sighed. For some reason he just couldn’t say no to them. For some odd reason, they seemed familiar.

Meanwhile, at the construction site, the dark crystal slowly pulsated and buried itself deeper into the mound of gravel, imbuing it with its energy.

(Eye Catch)

“So there is a theatre in this city?” Michiru said, looking through a book entitled “Visitor’s Guide to The Twin Cities” Matt looked up for a second. “Um…if you mean the Guthrie, no, that’s in Minneapolis, this is St. Paul. “ “Oh…I see” Michiru turned the page in her guide. “Oi, boy.” Haruka said, keeping her eyes on the road. “Um my name is Matt” He found it odd that she called him boy when she looked about the same age as he was. “So Matt…you are awfully quiet back there. Is something on your mind?” Matt looked down, visions flashing before his eyes. “Haruka...isn’t it?” “Yes…that is my name” Haruka kept her hands on the wheel. “Have you ever felt, that you were missing something? That you’ve all your life had some purpose but for some reason you don’t know what it is? That you’re just different from everyone else?” Haruka didn’t say much for a long time, holding onto the wheel as they went down the St. Paul streets. She then smirked and chuckled. “What do you want your life to be?” She answered coolly. Matt blinked “What do you mean?” “What life does depends on you. You make your own choices. If those choices be good or bad in the end, that is up to you. In the end, it is up to you to fill in that void you felt.” Haruka said, turning down a road near where a new building was being worked on. “I suppose…so...” Matt said, and then rubbed his eyes. He swore that for a split second, Haruka and Michiru looked different.

“Alright, George! Let’s get that dirt out of the way.” The foreman moved back as the bulldozer slowly inched its way towards pile of gravel that stood in the middle of the site. It had been a long day, and while they had made progress, everyone was itching to return home. As soon as the blade of dozer touched the pile of dirt, however, a pulse of black energy sprang out from it, knocking over the foremen and the man in the bulldozer. Several more of the construction workers scrambled over to them and as they all watched, the dirt swirled into a twister, condensed and formed a body. To the naked eye, the being looked like a woman, her skin grey, but parts of it covered in dark stone, including her arms and legs. What would pass for hair seemed to be made up of black crystals that grew from her head and on her back arose two large black crystal tiers. As the men stared, she opened her eyes, revealing blood red pupils and smiled.

The car stopped so fast that if Matt hadn’t been wearing his seatbelt, he probably would have smacked his head into the back of the seat in front him. Regaining his bearings, he looked to Haruka in the driver’s seat. “Hey? Is something wrong?” He said, puzzled by the sudden stop. “Did you feel that…”Haruka said, her voice dropping down under her breath. “What? What’s wrong?” Matt did admit he had a slight headache and a hard to breathe feeling, but he didn’t notice anything wrong. “Yes…the waters are restless…” Michiru responded. Matt looked around, confused as to what water she was talking about. Haruka suddenly leaped out of the car “There!” Michiru turned to Matt, seeming to finally realize he was there. “Stay here please” She gave him a soft smile and rushed off to join Haruka, who was running towards the construction site, leaving Matt both confused and alone in the car. Matt frowned to himself, watching the two head off. “Like I’m going to be left behind!” Opening the door, the first thing he did was trip over himself and then regaining his footing, he ran after them.

As they reached the fence, Haruka and Michiru paused, peering through a crack in it to the yard beyond. The scene was one of utter horror: The creature held in her hands one of the construction workers by the throat, and as they watched, light pulsated from him into her and into the crystals in her back. Soon the man fell limp in her grip, the creature tossing him aside like so much garbage. The creature then seemed to move towards the other men. “It is not a Daimon…” Michiru whispered. Haruka frowned “no…this is something totally different.” “I guess our vacation is over.” Michiru looked at Haruka, who just smiled. “Let’s just call this a bump in the road.” As she said that, she removed something from her pocket, Michiru doing the same.

Matt, meanwhile, after avoiding the traffic of the road, had just managed to reach the construction site and quickly ducked behind a trash can as he spotted Haruka and Michiru standing there, holding an object in their hands. “…What are they doing…” he wondered to himself. As he watched, the two held the objects in the air and shouted “URANUS PLANET POWER!” “NEPTUNE PLANET POWER!” “MAKE UP!” A bright light seemed to erupt around them, a gold one over Haruka and a blue one over Michiru. As he watched, the light vanished, revealing the two girls…yet…they had been changed. Both wore what almost looked like some sort of female sailor’s outfit, but with a short skirt and bows on the front and back. On their foreheads they wore tiaras. The longer Matt looked at them, the more his head hurt, as if something was clawing out of his brain. The two nodded to each other and made a leap over the fence that would make any Olympic athlete faint. Matt ran quickly to the fence…and peered through the cracks.

The creature had grabbed one of the workers in the meantime and was currently draining the life from him. She smiled as the man shivered and grew even paler by the minute. “Wonderful wonderful energy…..wooooooonderful” It cackled with a voice somewhat like gravel. As she reached down to take the last of his life, she paused as several petals flew past her head. Turning around slowly, she rested her dark crimson eyes on two figures standing ontop of the fence surrounding the site. “Who are you suppose to be?” The creature said, growling. “Protected by the Heavenly King World, Sailor Uranus!” “Guarded by the King of Oceans World, Sailor Neptune” The sailor senshi leapt down facing the creature. The monster gave a sardonic grin. “This will be fun…” Flinging the worker aside, the creature rushed towards the two. Matt, meanwhile, watched this captivated. “Sailor…Uranus…Sailor…Neptune…” His headache seemed to be getting worse and worse as he watched the two figures. Sailor Uranus raised her hand into the air, a golden orb forming in it. “WOOOOORLD SHAKING!” Slamming the orb into the ground, she watched as it hit the beast point blank, sending up a mist of dust everywhere. Before the dust could settle, however, the creature burst through it and slammed into Uranus, sending her flying backwards into the fence. “Uranus!” Turning towards the creature, Neptune raised both her arms up, blue energy traveling into her hands and forming a ball. “DEEP SUBMERGING!!” Firing the shot point blank at the creature. However the thing merely smirked, and to Matt’s amazement, sunk into the ground just before the attack could hit. As Sailor Neptune looked around for any sign of the creature, two hands rose from the dirt behind her. “NEPTUNE! WATCH OUT!” Uranus cried, but it was too late as the hands gripped both of Neptune’s legs, lifting her off the ground as the rest of the monster reformed. As Sailor Uranus rushed forward to try and rescue Neptune, the creature swung the senshi of the sea straight at her, causing both to barrel to the ground. “Well…this has been fun…but now it’s time to end the games” As the creature spoke this, it raised one of its arms, which morphed into the shape of a sharp rock sword. Uranus slowly got up, one of her hands behind her glowing as she prepared her next move, Neptune doing the same. “Now…DIE!!” The creature gave a roar and began to move into a swing to slash its foes when suddenly it stopped. “No…you…don’t!” The creature struggled, trying to dislodge Matt off it, the young man having tried to hold back her arms with his own. “Run! Get out of here!!!!” Matt shouted, trying to keep the angry monster in check. “What do you think you’re doing!?” Sailor Uranus shouted, both angry and stunned by this move. “I’m…saving you!...” The creature growled and continued to try and dislodge the unwanted intruder from its back. “You’re going to get yourself killed!” Sailor Neptune shouted, keeping the energy of her attack still built up on her hand. “Doesn’t matter…you told me…that my…life depends on me…that I am the only one to fill that void…” Matt gave them a smile. “Now…go…I can’t…hold onto…” Before he could finish the sentence, the creature threw him over its shoulder and onto the ground. Before the young man or the senshi could react, the monster grabbed Matt by the head and lifted him up in front of her. She gave a chuckle and gripped his head tighter, giving him a gasp of pain. “Oh yes….so much for your rescuer. I can feel the energy leaving your body!” As it spoke these words, Matt could feel the very strength begin to leave him slowly. “I can feel the strength becoming mine…” Matt could feel all the feeling in his arms and legs slowly begin to vanish. It couldn’t end like this. He wouldn’t die like this, not in front of his friends. Friends? Why did he say that? Were they his friends??? He could feel his head start to pulse, his headache seeming to grow stronger and more painful. It felt like his skull was burning and would explode at any time. “Oh yes! I can feel…BURNING!!!!” The creature screamed as a blinding green light burst from the man’s forehead, destroying the monster’s hand and causing Matt fall forward onto the ground. The creature kept screaming, holding its crumbling arm. However, Uranus and Neptune’s attention were drawn elsewhere. As Matt raised his head, the two senshi could see glowing on his forehead a signet, one in the shape of a stylized Q. There was another sudden burst of light and for Matt everything seemed to freeze in motion.

“Mattias” Matt looked around, searching for the source of the voice. “Who’s there?? S-show yourself!” As he watched, an object seemed to morph into existence. It was small, with a blue handle on which was topped a round light green orb with a crooked wave like ring around it. On top of this orb sat a gold star with a Q shape carved into its center. It seemed to pulse with power. “Mattias” the voice seemed clearer now. “You have a choice…either deny the wand and return to a normal life or accept it and forever have your path changed. Choose” As this was happening, the creature growled, stone forming from her arm into a blade. “I’LL KILL YOU!!” Matt stared at wand and then at Sailor Uranus and Neptune and the monster. His eyes darted from object to people and then back again. “I choose…” The creature moved towards the two senshi, who slowly rose and prepared to defend themselves. “I…choose…” The monster raised its bladed arm, as both Neptune and Uranus prepared their attacks. Matt shut his eyes tight and grabbed the wand, the words popping into his mind from nowhere. “Q PLANET POWER! MAAAAAKE UP!!!!!” What happened next from Matt’s point of view was a blur. He felt as if his form was melting and reforming, growing lighter in some parts and heavier in others. There seemed to be a burst of cool wind around him as he slowly opened his eyes. From Uranus, Neptune and the creature’s point of view, there was a sudden explosion of green light before it melted away to reveal another sailor senshi, with short light blond hair, blue-green eyes, wearing a fuku with a light blue bow and light green skirt. She opened her eyes slowly and blinked and looked at her hands and body. “Wha…wha…WHAT!?” She looked at Uranus and Neptune with confused eyes, just as the creature charged her. The senshi blinked and barely managed to scramble out of the way. “…So he…or she….is one of us..” Uranus said, watching the new senshi trying to avoid the monster’s angry attacks. “Shouldn’t we help her?” Neptune said, looking concerned. Uranus turned back, their fellow warrior managing to avoid each swing of the monster’s blade. “No…let’s see how she does in a fight.”

In the meantime, Matt was trying to keep himself or rather herself simply alive. “Oh man keep away keep away keep away!!!”The creature swung madly at Matt, the girl somehow dodging every attack. “Keep still!!!!” It growled. As it made another swing, Matt blindly swung her leg, kicking it’s blade arm off and hitting it’s gut with a second kick, sending it sprawling backwards. “Wha…how did I…” Before she could finish the sentence, the ground seemed to swirl and seemed to grab her in a giant fist. “Urk…grk…let…” The creature walked towards the trapped girl, giving a laugh. “It looks like I’ll finish you off anyway.” The monster moved it’s one left over hand, the fist made of dirt gripping harder, making Matt cry out briefly. “Uranus….we should stop this.” Neptune said, moving forward to try and rescue the new warrior. She was stopped by Uranus putting her arm in front of her. “Not yet…” “But she could die!” “Just wait…” Uranus was watching intently at the scene. As they watched, the struggling Matt’s form began to glow green, cracks forming in the earthen fist. “Me…..GO!!!” She shouted as the fist explodes in a burst of air, sending the monster barreling backwards. Holding her hand to the sky, words popped into her head, words that she immediately repeated. “AIR!! BLAST!!!” Green energy snaked around her body, surrounding a green energy orb that grew in her open palm. Moving her arm down, she sent the ball of energy at the creature. The ball melted into a full on narrow blast, striking the creature in the center of its body. For a brief second, Matt and the other senshi could see a dark crystal appear from the center, cracking and then shattering, before crystal faded from view. With a screech of “SHATTER!!!”, the creature was reduced back to the stone it was before, falling to the ground in pieces.

Above the battle site, Faris frowned. Whoever this new person was could become a menace before long. With a burst of dark mist, he vanished into the either, returning to the void from which he came.

Matt took a deep breath, feeling worn out from the fight. Blinking, she looked over herself closely for the first time and give a short shriek. “What…What’s going on!? Why am I a girl!?!” Matt looked at Uranus and Neptune with pleading eyes. “WHAT’S HAPPENED TO ME!?” Neptune smiled to Matt, putting a hand on the girl’s shoulder. “You are a Sailor Senshi like us…” “A…what???” Uranus moved forward, staring at Matt. “You are a sailor senshi…I am Sailor Uranus…and this is Sailor Neptune….and you must be Sailor Q.” “Huh?” “That’s the word you said, dear.” Neptune gave a smile. Matt shook her head “No no NO! How do I get out of this outfit? How do I drop this transformation thing!?” She yelled, obviously upset. “Simply imagine the transformation vanishing. Like this.” Said Sailor Uranus and as Matt watched, both senshi closed their eyes. Before her eyes, the uniforms of the two senshi seemed to glow and change to a mass of colored ribbons, which quivered then faded and reformed into their normal clothes. Matt closed her eyes and imagined the same thing, feeling the sensation of the uniform vanishing and returning to her original clothing. As she opened her eyes, however, she noticed Haruka and Michiru looking at her with an expression of both astonishment and amusement. “Wh…what are you looking at??” Matt said, confused. Suddenly she realized that her clothes were just a tad large on her and as she looked down, she spotted something that she didn’t have before. “GAAAAH! I’M STILL A GIRL!!!” She was indeed still a girl. Looking up, she spotted Haruka and Michiru walking back to their car. “Wait…WAIT!!!! YOU CAN’T LEAVE ME LIKE THIS!?” She ran towards the vehicle, skidding to a halt near Haruka. “I can’t go home like this!!!!” Michiru put her hand on Haruka’s arm, who looked over to her. As Matt watched, the girl opened up the glove compartment on the car and tossed something to her. Looking down, she found she held in her hands a roll of bandages. “You better learn how to bind those things quickly then.” Haruka said, turning the ignition and slowly driving off. “Wait! WAIT! WAIIIIIT!” Matt said fruitlessly, before giving up and standing there dumbfounded.

“Haruka…” “Hm?” Haruka turned off the radio as Michiru spoke. “Are we doing the right thing? That creature…it wasn’t a Daimon. It was something else entirely.” Haruka just quietly drove on. “Are we doing the right thing, just leaving like this? Leaving that boy…I mean girl to handle this on her own?” Haruka gave a short chuckle. “I think…she’ll be just fine.” She gave another chuckle as the two of them drove through the city.

So now I’m a girl, what am I suppose to do?? Huh!? We’re learning sprinting in gym? What’s that monster doing there!? GAH! WHAT AM I SUPPOSE TO DO!? Next time on Sailor Q! Run Away! A Monster at School! Time to fight!!

Run Away! A Monster at School?

はしりさる!化け物で学校?

The light of the sun crept slowly in the room through the window, moving slowly across a bed. “Matt? Matt!?” A voice called out from downstairs. “Matthias Smithson! It’s time to get up.” An arm lazily snaked out from under the covers and pulled them off. Yawning and standing up, Matt wiped the tiredness from her eyes and thinking quickly, looked down the inside of her shirt. She sighed deeply. “So it wasn’t a dream. What am I going to do?” She said as she grabbed the roll of bandages from her dresser. “What am I going to do…?”

A few minutes later, she found herself downstairs in the kitchen. She was having a bit of a hard time breathing, but nothing she couldn’t handle. Sitting down at her usual spot at the table, she gazed over at her father, a rough looking man with dark brown hair that obscured his eyes and a rough looking beard. She suddenly could feel someone smack her in the back of the head, causing her to move forward briefly. “Morning, bro…” Rubbing the back of her head, she glared at her little sister, Sarah. She was only a year younger then Matt but she always tried to act twice her age in front of her. “Don’t hit your older brother, Sarah”. Their mother walked in, dressed for her job at the company she worked at. Their mother had long brown curly hair and wore round glasses that framed her face in such a way that it made her look like a stereotypical brainiac. At this moment, Matt was just happy that she didn’t happen to notice that her “son” was now an inch and a half shorter then “he” had been the previous day, or that “his” voice had gained a pitch. Matt grabbed a bowl and poured in some cereal, adding some milk as was her custom every morning. “I’ll see you all later then...oh Matt…don’t worry about today.” Matt turned and gave his mom a puzzled look. “What…have you forgotten, brainac? Today’s the mile run!” Matt dropped the milk carton then and there.

Within the dark void, Faris once more kneeled before the shadowy figure on a throne. Between them replayed images of Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune and Sailor Q in a continuous loop. “Explain….” The cold voice echoed from the darkness. “I cannot….but they will not interfere again” Faris said, keeping his eyes down. “I should hope not…we cannot afford such things.” The figure’s eyes glowed dull red as it stared towards the kneeling form of Faris. “Have you selected a target then?” the figure said calmly. “I have…” He replied, holding out his hand and revealing the glowing dark crystal which silently pulsed with a malevolent pattern. “Then go and let no one stop you, Faris. I do not tolerate failure.” Faris gave a curt nod and vanished in a burst of black mist.

“I can’t stand THIS!!” Matt shouted as she walked down the hall. “I know but we have to do it.” Ellie said, sighing along with her friend. “I’m sure you’ll do fine though! So there is nothing to worry about!” Matt just gave Ellie a look. “Remember junior high?” Ellie blinked and sighed. “Oh yeah.” Both sighed at the same time, and then stumbled forward as two hands patted them hard on the shoulder. “Hey there, you two!” Peter said, smiling widely. “Ready for the run??” Matt just grumbled, brushing off Peter’s hand and continuing to walk. “Huh…what’s wrong with him?” Ellie sighed and gave Peter a look of disbelief. “You know very well that Matt hates the mile run! He’s always last place in them no matter how hard he tries.” Ellie looked back at the retreating figure of her friend. “Even though he tries his best, he never manages to find a way to get anything other than last.” Peter gazed back at where Ellie was looking. “…I still don’t get why he’s in a bad mood though.” Ellie answered that with a whack in the back of the head with her math book.

The doors to a shack opened with a slam, as Faris stood in the doorway. He scanned the interior, making note of every object inside, from the smallest baseball to the largest container. Flicking his wrist, he threw the dark stone into the middle of the room, watching it bury itself in the middle of a pile of the athletic equipment. As the dark pattern of light grew in strength, he smiled a thin coldblooded smile.

Matt winced as she pulled the bandages tighter around her chest. “Just…a bit…tighter…” She said, clenching her teeth. She was happy enough that the guy’s locker room had bathroom stalls. There was a knock at the stall, making Matt freeze in place. “Hey, Matt? You ok in there? We have to get going.” Peter said, a twinge of concern in his voice. “Oh…um…yeah I’ll be right out..just….MY PANTS ZIPPER IS BROKEN AND I’M TRYING TO FIX IT…” Matt bit her tongue after she said that. Peter slowly backed away from the stall. “Um…ok…I’ll just be outside then.” Matt sighed, putting on her shirt and walking out of the locker area. As she walked outside and toward the track, she thought of why she hated this day. Ever since she was a kid, she always had come last in everything. No matter how hard she tried, she just never seemed to be able to be anything but last. It didn’t help that she was rotten at athletics, couldn’t hit a ball even if it was aimed at her head and would be out of breath after only a few feet of running. She had pretty much given into the idea that no matter what and no matter how hard she tried, she would always be in last place. Her train of thought was interrupted by Ellie grabbing her arm suddenly. “Come on Matt! We’re about to start!” Matt whimpered a bit. She hated this so much.

All the students quickly got into a line in front of the finish line. Everyone knew the drill. You had to run around the circular track four times to make it a complete one mile. It had something to do with health or something. As far as Matt knew it was utter torture. “Alright, students, get ready!!!” the gym teacher shouted, a rough looking middle aged woman. “Get set!” Several students crouched down as if this was a marathon, something Matt didn’t follow suit with. “Go!!” Everyone bolted forward down the track, with Matt falling behind automatically. She could see Peter bolt ahead of her, while Elley was as usual near the front.

The gym teacher quietly retreated over near the equipment shed. She knew already which order the runners would come in. She didn’t have to worry about looking over them. Pull a cigarette from her pocket and putting it to her mouth; she failed to see a shining metal arm slowly come out from the shed, reaching out to her.

“I…hate…this…so…much!” Matt said between gasps. She was already on her second lap and already it felt like her lungs were on fire. Her muscles ached as she tried to push herself but she already far behind the others. It didn’t help that her chest was being restricted the way it was and the sweat was making the bandages itch horribly. She felt that if she didn’t collapse from exhaustion first then she would tear her clothes off in anger. What a sight that would be! Suddenly her attention focused elsewhere as she noticed she was moving past people. While this made her happy at first, she quickly realized that she wasn’t moving any faster but people were moving slower! As she got up to where Ellie was, she looked over at her. Her face was pale and sunken in, as if something was draining the life from her. “Ellie…hey Ellie??...” She stopped and grabbed Ellie’s arm but it didn’t stop her. It was as if she was under some sort of mind control or something. Matt let her go and then did the only thing she figured she could do: ran to find the teacher.

One thing Matt knew about Mrs. McKenny was that she always smoked behind the equipment shed. She was infamous for leaving in the middle of the class for a quick cigarette and you could always find her in that exact same spot. “Mrs. Mckenny??? Mrs. Mckenny! Something’s wrong with every-“ The words stuck cold in her throat, as she gazed as the unconscious prone form of the teacher. Running over, Matt tried to shake her awake. “Mrs. Mckenny! Wake up! WAKE UP!” As she shook her teacher, she realized something was standing over her. Turning quickly, she saw a brief flash of metal before being smacked across the face, darkness overtaking her.

Matt felt her head, slowing sitting up. “Ugh…what hit me…” She said to herself, feeling her cheek and wincing at the pain. She must have been out for hours, given how dark it had gotten. Strange though, she thought to herself, there aren’t any stars out. As her eyes adjusted to the darkness, she fully managed to recognize her surroundings: she was in the school shed. Walking over to the door, she grabbed at its handles, trying to pull it open, to no avail, the doors locked from the outside. Hearing the steady squealing of a whistle, as well as the sound of running feet made Matt try even harder to open the door, but only managed to get her to pull off the handle and fall on her butt. As she started to get up, her hand felt her Q wand, which had fallen out of her pocket after she fell over. Picking it up, she looked at it, biting her lip. “Well…it’s better than doing nothing.” Raising the wand in the air, she shouted the phrase: “Q PLANET POWER MAKE UP!!!”

Outside, the figure kept blowing her whistle, watching the students continue to run around the track. They were almost skeletal figures, mere shadows of who they once were, the energy being drained slowly from their bodies and into the now glowing and pulsating whistle. “Come on! Pick up the slack!!! That energy isn’t going to drain itself! Hup hup hup!!” the figure barked, grinning to themselves in glee. “Now let’s get another lap or twoOOU!” the thing’s speech was interrupted as the shed behind her burst open with a blast, sending the creature sprawling onto her face and the running students to collapse. As the dust settled…a lone figure stands in the remains of the small structure. “From the mysterious world! Sailor Q! Acting with WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU!?” As she had been making her speech, the creature had gotten up, allowing her a good look at it. It looked almost human but for the blue skin and red eyes. Its red hair was spiky and it wore a red and black track suit, its arms made of metal and on its back what seemed to be every single sports accessory known to man. “Yeah. you’re not human are you?” “It’s time to do a lap!” The creature gave a hard blow on her whistle and Q suddenly found herself getting down in a starting position. “LET’S GO!” the creature gave a second blow on its whistle, causing Q to bolt down the track, moving faster than she ever had. The problem of course was that she couldn’t stop!

As she hit the second lap, she could feel her energy begin to leech away, the constant whistle blowing burrowing into her head. “The whistle” she muttered to herself. It seemed to be the source of this power in her mind. As she passed by a third time, she noticed a small rock and managed to scoop it up. Her legs already felt weak, her head dizzy. She had to make it out for one more lap. As she approached the creature’s location, she threw the rock, which slammed right into the whistle, shattering it. Q’s legs finally gave out as the spell removed itself from her. “Gah! You little brat!” the creature screeched. It reached behind itself and pulled out a baseball bat and in its other hand summoned a glowing ball. “Alright then. Batter up sailor girl!” Tossing the ball up, the creature swung, sending the ball towards the exhausted Q. The senshi, however, just barely managed to roll out of the way before the ball hit the ground, causing an explosive reaction. As Q stood up slowly on shaky legs, the creature hit two more balls her way, one of which she barely managed to dodge, but the second the explosive burst striking her in the back. Tumbling forward, Q found herself face to face with the creature, who lifted the bat over her head, preparing to bash her skull in. “Score is…” Acting quickly, Q did a quick leg swept (despite said leg hurting like heck) and grabbing the bat, hitting the creature in the gut with it. As it flew backwards from the force of the hit, Q threw aside the bat and fired a single Air Blast at the creature, striking it in the chest. With a single cry of “SHATTER”, the creature returned to its original form of a pile of sports equipment, the dark crystal in it shattering to nothing.

Above the school, Faris frowned at the failure of his latest Sin-Jin. It was now obvious that this Sailor Q would be more of a hindrance then he believed. With that thought, he vanished in a burst of black flame and smoke.

Q stood there, wiping her brow and staring at what was left of her foe. “Q…one…you?...Zero” She suddenly stiffed as she heard a round of applause from behind her. Turning slowly around, she saw the crowd of students cheering and clapping! They must have woken up during the fight and saw everything. “That was awesome!’ “So cool!” “Is she like a superhero or something?” As the crowd talked to each other and cheered, Elly made her way towards Q. “Hey…who are you??” she said, smiling with curious eyes. Q gulped. What should she do? If she said anything, Ellie might recognize her voice, but if she didn’t say anything... Q turned and smiled to the crowd. “My name is Sailor Q!” She said and quickly leapt away before anyone could ask anything else. As Ellie watched Q go, Peter slowly made his way over to her side. “Hey el…” Ellie didn’t look, still staring at where the mysterious hero had gone. “Yes Peter?” “…….was she wearing a miniskirt? Cause if she was…that’s pretty…OOF!” Peter doubled over as Ellie punched his gut and walked away angrily. “What did I say?” Peter groaned.

That night, as Matt lay on her bed staring at the ceiling, she thought back to what had happened earlier that day. “Nothing’s going to happen. They’ve probably forgotten what happened.” “Matt! Come downstairs quick!” her mom said, sounding excited. As Matt walked down the stairs she smiled to herself. “Don’t worry, Matt. Everything is going to be going to be al-“ “ysterious sighting of what appeared to be some sort of superhero.” Matt froze as she entered the living room, the news playing on the television set. “Students described her as wearing some sort of sailor uniform and calling herself Sailor Q” Whatever blood was in Matt’s face immediately drained at that. “Isn’t that exciting, Matt! A superhero appearing at your own school!” her mom said. “Probably just a hoax” replied her dad. Matt just sank down to her knees. “Yeah…just wonderful.”
