On a day, when the winds of the Etherium were strong and inviting, two young figures soared across the golden sky. The Crown Prince (18) and the Earl of Titan (14) flew together in an aerial display of daring proportions aboard their space boards.

“C’mon cuz!” Atrus shouted as he flew higher on his solar surfer. “You’ll never catch up at this rate!”

“Gimme a break!” Sean followed closely behind trying to gain speed. “You cheated and got a full five second head start!”

“Cheated?” Atrus laughed. “I don’t know what you are talking about!”

“You sucker punched me!” Sean retorted. “And you rigged the countdown!”

“Hey!” Atrus looked back and smiled. “I counted 1 to 10, just like I said!”

“Yeah right!” Sean shouted back. “It doesn’t count when you go 1…2…10!!!”

“Eh!” Atrus shrugged playfully. “Quit your griping and let’s get some air!”

The two young men soared higher and faster, dodging the fowl and harassing the crafts in the area. They approached the royal residence of Nirvana, Titan, and a small figure stood out on the highest balcony waving at the fast approaching youths.

“Atrus! Atrus!” Little Hotaru (10) shouted to her eldest brother. “I wanna fly too!” Atrus pulled his board along side the terrace and swooped up his little sister.

“Ok!” He said as he set her down on the board. “Hold on to me tight, and I’ll show you how to fly!” He again rocketed off into the glistening sky with Hotaru happily holding his belt. Sean flew along side his cousins as they continued to soar and play. Suddenly, a loud shouting caught their attention. They turned to see Chad, the head of the house of Urth, was following them. He flew past the youths and blocked their paths with his wide wings.

“Ok, boys,” He spoke sternly. “It’s time to end this game. Your parents demand to see the both of you.”

“Oh, alright,” Atrus sighed. He was about to turn around when Chad stopped his abruptly.

“Just one more thing,” He reached out and took Hotaru into his arms. “I’ll be taking your sister. It is your mother’s order.”

“Uh oh,” Sean whispered to his cousin. “You’re gonna get it now.”

The three flew back to the main courtyard of the royal residence where the royal families were waiting. Chad set down and let Hotaru run to her father.

“Just what do you think you two were doing?!” Trent stormed towards the youths. “Reports are all over the airways! You two have caused a complete disruption of all air activities! It’ll take hours until the original order is restored and fully operational again!”

“Sorry uncle,” Atrus smiled sheepishly. “We were just out to have some fun.”

“And your fun has cost this moon too much,” Trent continued his rant. He turned to two servants. “Confiscate their boards! You both are grounded, in both the literal and conventional sense!”

“Now, now, dear,” Elizabeth walked forward. “Calm down. Boys will be boys after all.”

“This is not how I raised our son!” Trent replied. “Sean! I’m greatly disappointed in you!” Sean hung his head but kept his angry pout.

“As am I,” Jenn, Empress of Saturn, approached her son. “Taking Hotaru up there with you?”

“She wanted to fly,” Atrus rubbed his head. “I couldn’t just ignore her plight.”

“Space surfing is too dangerous,” Keith, Emperor of Saturn addressed his son. “Not to mention, it is completely irresponsible of the Crown Prince to endanger his own sister. What if she were to fall off?”

“Besides,” Jenn added. “It’s undignified. As members of the imperial family, not to mention for a young prince about to be married.”

“Aw, mother,” Atrus flushed slightly. “You don’t have to rub it in.”

“Anyhow,” Elizabeth interjected. “Let’s all move on inside. I’m sure this afternoon will be better discussed after some tea.” The families accepted the invitation and followed Trent and Elizabeth into their manor and on into the royal hall. The rest of the family including Sean’s sisters and Atrus’ siblings joined them.

“You’ve gone and messed up again,” Leona (16) approached her brother.

“What are you doing here?” Atrus looked at his warrior sister. “And where is your beloved Dios?”

“Well, I am invited to your wedding,” She snidely replied. “And as for Dios, he’s watching the kingdom while I am here. You’ll never grow up, I swear.”

“Oh, back off,” Atrus shrugged off his sister. “Just because you already got married and have responsibility over your own realm doesn’t make you better than me. You’re still a dirty little tomboy as far as I’m concerned.”

“You’ll eat those words,” Leona raised her fist.

“Stop it,” Crysta and Pyra (7) spoke together.

“The twins are right,” Trent walked over. “Break it up. There will be no brawling in my house.” Both royal siblings gave each other one last glare before moving away to sit with their family. Jenn invited her brother to walk the manor with her. They strolled through the halls, talking of times past and things to come.

“Keith’s become quite the king,” Trent complimented. “And he’s completely taken in by your littlest one.”

“He is Hotaru’s favorite,” Jenn smiled. “Daddy’s little girl. I guess its fate, since Keith is the one who named her. She is his special treasure, and my little angel.”

“Hard to believe,” Trent laughed slightly. “It’s been nearly twenty years since our last adventure. And to think, after all I’ve seen and fought, my own son would be the death of me.”

“You shouldn’t be so hard on him,” Jenn sighed. “I’ve had my share of trouble from Atrus this last year alone.”

“You mean all that romantic mischief?” Trent laughed. “He must be frustrated abiding by the Plutonian tradition of isolation and no kissing. Probably why he’s been so wound up lately.”

“It’s no real laughing matter,” Jenn sighed. “His antics put us on the brink of war with the Plutonian King.”

“Wouldn’t have been much of a war,” Trent huffed. “You know we would have beat them hands down.”

“Perhaps,” Jenn replied. “But then, where would that put Atrus and Setsuna? I’m just glad things have worked out so well, and that he has committed himself to this marriage.”

“Yes,” Trent smiled. “They are a good match.” A messenger hurried in and interrupted the royal twins.

“Excuse me Sire, Highness,” He knelt before the two. “Your son’s marks have just come in from the institute. His instructors are requesting audience with you and the Lady Elizabeth.”

“Here we go…” Trent sighed as he opened the message. He scowled at the paper and looked at the messenger. “Tell his teachers I will see them right away. As for my wife, it’s best she not get involved at this time. She is detained for the time being. Sister, if you will excuse me.” Trent then stormed off to his governing room to meet with the instructors. Jenn made her way back to the hall where the rest of the family was sitting. She called Elizabeth over.

“There’s trouble brewing,” Jenn whispered. “Trent just got Sean’s marks from school. You’d better go calm Trent down before he comes after Sean and tears into him in front of the whole family.” Without hesitation Elizabeth excused herself and hurried to catch up to Trent.

“I’m in trouble,” Sean sighed. “Aren’t I highness?”

“Sean,” Jenn smiled warmly. “You’re my nephew, call me Auntie, and yes. I’m afraid your father just got your grades. He didn’t look too happy.”

“Uh oh,” Atrus laughed. “Little cousin’s gonna get it now!”

“You probably influenced him,” Devyen (15) looked up from his book. “He looks up to you most of all, and you slack off all the time.”

“Bookworm,” Atrus smacked his younger brother upside the head. Jenn returned the smack.

“Stop picking on your brother,” Jenn scolded. “You should set a better example, as the crown prince.”

“Aw, mom,” Atrus rubbed his head.

“It’s so exciting,” Kathryn (17) piped up. “Big brother Atrus is getting married. I thought this day would never come! And to think, I and all my friends thought you were…”

“Don’t say it…” Atrus warned. “I’m not one to hit women, but you don’t count as one since you are my sister.”

“Atrus!” Kathryn snapped. “How dare you!”

“I’ll dare,” Atrus smiled impishly. “At least I’m not getting forced to marry, unlike a certain princess in the family.”

“Wh…why...you!” Kathryn was turning red. “My husband is a kind and noble man. Mother and Father were just helping me by finding a decent lord rather than…”

“Letting you find one yourself?” Atrus widened his grin. “You couldn’t attract any suitors with your high society attitude and materialistic lifestyle. Mom and dad had to bribe that guy to take you in.”

“Atrus!” Jenn and Keith scolded. The crown prince just laughed.

“We should all be grateful,” Aine (14) sipped her tea. “That her husband isn’t here to hear you say that. I would hate to think that you would start an issue with a Drule noble.”

“I could take him,” Atrus boasted. “I’ve excelled in my martial training. How hard could it be?”

“You mean considering,” Devyen put down his book. “That the Drule people are twice as strong as ours physically? It’s a good thing we have a peaceful alliance with them.”

“Aw heck,” Atrus waved his hand. “The may be physically stronger, but they have no supernatural abilities.”

“That wouldn’t be a fair fight,” Keith commented. “You shouldn’t joke about your powers like that. You could easily kill someone if you’re not careful.”

“Papa?” Hotaru looked worried. “Atrus wouldn’t hurt anybody, would he?”

“No way, little one,” Atrus smiled at his youngest sister. “I’d never hurt anyone, unless they were trying to hurt my loved ones.”

“I’m glad to see you’re in good spirits,” Trent returned. “I apologize for my absence. Sean, come with me, NOW.”

“But…” Sean protested. “But, dad…”

“No buts,” Trent cut him off. “You can visit with the family later. Your mother and I need to talk to you.” Sean reluctantly followed his father while his sisters giggled at him.

“Poor Sean is,” Crysta started.

“In trouble again!” Pyra finished.

“Poor kid,” Keith sighed. “I feel sorry for your brother, girls. Your parents are really hard on him at times.”

“Mommy is so nice to him,” Crysta looked at her twin.

“But dad is strict,” Pyra looked back.

“Daddy had high expectations,” Said Crysta.

“But Sean disappoints dad,” Said Pyra.

“Mommy tries to see the lighter side,” Crysta points out.

“Dad shows no mercy,” Pyra giggles.

“He never changes,” Jenn smiled. “Still the same little brother, but I think he needs to lighten up before he give himself a stroke.”

Meanwhile, back in the governing room, Trent and Elizabeth were discussing the marks with Sean.

“Son, I’m very disappointed in you,” Trent scowled.

“I know,” Sean glanced at the floor.

“You’ve been slacking off,” Trent continued. “Your marks from the institute are evidence enough. What are we going to do with you? Your mother and I send you to these schools to better your knowledge and give you the best there is in education. So far the only things you’ve excelled in are your music, literature, and fencing classes.”

“Now Trent,” Elizabeth tried to calm her husband. “Let’s be reasonable.”

“There is no excuse!” Trent snapped. “What are you going to do when it’s time for you to take our place here as Earl of Titan? The parliament world would crumble with your lack of knowledge and arrogant attitude!”

“I’m sorry,” Sean apologized. “But this school stuff is a little too much. It’s not what I want to do with my life.”

“Perhaps a little time off from school,” Elizabeth suggested. “Y’know, kinda like a summer vacation.”

“Beth, dear,” Trent’s eyebrow twitched. “Sometimes you amaze me…”

“Huh?” She looked confused. “What do you mean?”

“Never mind,” Trent shrugged it off. “Sean, because you’ve been delinquent in your studies, I’m ordering you to stay here and catch up in all your below average subjects.”

“Ok,” Sean shrugged. “I’ll get right on that starting next week.”

“No,” Trent glared. “NOW.”

“W-What?!” Sean stammered.

“What?!” Elizabeth echoed. “You want him to start now?”

“But what about…” Sean started. “Tomorrow?!”

“Forget about the wedding,” Trent put his foot down. “You cannot go. This is your punishment, and you will obey.”

“But,” Sean was shocked. “But…but…I…”

“I’m done here,” Trent turned to leave. Elizabeth paused glancing between the two. Sean turned red with anger.

“I HATE YOU!” He shouted before running from the room. Elizabeth stood worried and Trent just stood silent. Sean ran through the manor until he reached his room. He slammed the door and locked it behind him and remained confined there. As the day wore on there was a quiet knock at the door.

“Go away,” Sean replied as he sat sulking on his bed.

“Sean-chan,” His aunt’s voice came through the door. “May I speak with you?”

“There’s nothing you can do,” Sean buried his head. “Dad’s word is always final, even if you are the empress.”

“Please try to understand,” Jenn called. “He just wants what’s best for you.”

“What’s best for me?” Sean opened the door; his eyes welled up with angry tears. “Or what’s best for the parliament of Titan?! I HATE HIM! I HATE HIM!” The tears fell free down his face. Jenn embraced her nephew as he wept out his anger.

“Calm down,” She spoke kindly. “I know you’re angry, and you have the right.”

“Why couldn’t he be more like you?” Sean sobbed. “You listen to me, and you understand. He won’t listen. He never listens! He just lays down the law and there’s nothing more to be said!”

“If he were more like me,” Jenn pulled back and looked him in the eyes. “You’d probably still feel the same. I am strict with my boys as well. Heaven knows how many times I’ve come down on Atrus for his antics. And don’t get me started on Kathryn. It’s all part of being family, and trust me, parenthood has been the hardest challenge of my life. I’m sure Trent would agree.”

“You two are nothing alike,” Sean wiped his eyes. “I swear he hates me.”

“Don’t be silly,” Elizabeth smiled as she approached. “He is so proud of you and he loves you so much. He just doesn’t know how to express it. It’s his pride as a man.”

“You’re just saying that,” Sean looked away. “You always take his side.”

“Honey,” Beth touched his face. “I am your mother, but I am your father’s wife. I support him and his decisions because he is right. If I feel he goes too far, I will tell him. I’m not a pushover as some might think.”

“I’m going to bed,” Sean shrugged off his mother’s words.

“Won’t you come to dinner?” Elizabeth looked at him sadly. “Please, the family misses you.”

“No,” Sean replied. “I can’t stand to see dad again. Goodnight.” He turned to retreat into his room, but Jenn pulled him back and gave him a tight hug.

“Take care of yourself,” She whispered. “Come, my friend. He wants to be alone.” She kissed him gently on the forehead and she and Elizabeth left him to his room. The night carried on, and the imperial family said their goodbyes as they departed back home to Saturn. Trent walked his wife back to their room, and paused at Sean’s door. He stood there for a long moment until Beth spoke up.

“Well?” She asked.

“Well what?” He didn’t move his gaze.

“What are you thinking about?” She moved in front of him. Trent avoided eye contact.

“Nothing,” He replied.

“Well,” She sighed. “I think you should at least say goodnight to your son. You owe him that much, don’t you?”

“Maybe…” Trent looked back at the door.

“I’ll leave you alone then,” She walked on ahead to their room leaving Trent behind standing in the dark hall. He quietly approached the door and raised his hand to knock, but hesitated. Sean’s words echoed in his mind.

“I HATE YOU!”

Trent backed away, his once steadfast shoulders now quivered. He leaned against the far wall and put his hand to his face. He gathered himself and continued down the hall and rejoined his wife in their room. He refused to show his face to her. She looked at Trent worried.

“What’s wrong?” Elizabeth tried to touch his face but he pulled away.

“Nothing, hon,” Trent replied. “I’ve just got something in my eye…”

The next morning everyone was up extra early and making ready to depart for the Holy Capital of Saturn for the long awaited wedding. Trent gathered his wife and daughters and led them to the waiting shuttle. Sean stood at the main door of the manor to see them off. Trent approached his son, as they were getting ready to leave. Sean refused to look at his father and stared off to the side as Trent drew near. Trent stopped right in front of Sean and just looked at him quietly for a moment before putting a firm hand on his shoulder.

“You will learn from this experience,” Trent spoke with a different tone this time. “Make me proud.” Sean looked up and saw his dad smiling at him. Trent then turned and walked away towards the shuttle, not looking back again. Sean stood for a moment with a stunned look on his face, wondering what had just happened. Then he saw the shuttle lifting off, and soaring out of sight towards the golden planet in the sky.

“Come, young master,” A servant opened the door. “Your studies await.”

“I know…” Sean replied as he stared off into the sky. “I’m coming.”

Things in the city of Akira were bustling this day. The city shone like silver, and everything was decorated in flowers and sashes all throughout the streets leading up to the Silver Palace. The royal house was busy setting up the chapel, bringing in guests, and preparing the grand banquet for the reception. Jenn rushed about chasing Atrus in and out of his room to get him ready for his big day.

“MOH! Honestly!” Jenn scolded as she pounded on his bedroom door. “I didn’t have half this amount of trouble when your sisters got married!”

“Sorry!” Atrus called back. “I’m doing my best! It’s not like I know what to do! Isn’t the bride’s family supposed to set this stuff up?!”

“Mind your manners!” Jenn shouted. “You caused a lot of trouble courting her, so it’s only natural we host this event!”

“Oy…” Atrus groaned. “Ok, I think I’m ready!”

“Well, let’s double check then!” Jenn pulled out a list as Atrus poked his head out the door. “Did you memorize your vows?”

“Yup,” Atrus confirmed.

“Called the best man?” She went on.

“Check,” He nodded.

“Got the rings?” Jenn looked at him.

“Nope,” Atrus looked back. “You have those.”

“OH!” Jenn checked herself. “That’s right!”

“Heh!” Atrus snickered.

“Is your brother ready yet?” Jenn tried to peek into the room.

“Mother!” Devyen shouted out the door.

“Almost,” Atrus smirked. “He’s having trouble with his tie.”

“How’s your hair?” Jenn pulled his head out the door.

“Traditional,” Atrus showed his long ponytail. “Like always.”

“Are you wearing the royal garb your father brought for you?” Jenn continued.

“Double check,” He stood in the open door for all to see.

“And the Sword of Saturn?” She paused. There was no answer.

“Uh…”

“Atrus…” Jenn looked awkwardly at her son. “You do have the sword…don’t you?”

“Uh…”

“The Holy Royal Artifact…?” Jenn began to quiver with anxiety. “The one that signifies your stature as the CROWN PRINCE?!”

“EEP!” Atrus slammed the door. Jenn pounded furiously on the door all the while yelling at he son’s ignorance.

“WHAT DO YOU MEAN ‘EEP!’” She demanded. “YOU BETTER HAVE NOT LOST IT! HOW COULD YOU LOSE IT! DO YOU REALIZE WHAT YOU’VE DONE?! IT WAS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!”

“I didn’t lose it ma!” Atrus answered back. “I just misplaced it!”

“THAT’S THE SAME AS LOSING IT!” Jenn retorted. “HOW CAN YOU GO THROUGH WITH THE WEDDING WITHOUT THE HOLY ARTIFACT?!”

“Just give me a minute!” Atrus answered. “I’m sure it’s in here somewhere!”

“Mother is so going to kill you,” Devyen glanced at Atrus, who stumbled around his wreck of a room. Devyen still fumbled with his bow tie. “I thought you said you had everything set last night. Planned ahead and all.”

“Just shut up and help me find it!” Atrus dug through his immense closet. Jenn’s pounding got louder. “Uh oh. Maybe I can escape out the window…”

“And fall five stories?” Devyen looked at his brother with skepticism. “Mother would scrape you off the ground and kill you for trying something that stupid. And then she’ll kill you for ‘misplacing’ the sword.”

“Shut up,” Atrus dug around under his bed. “So where’s your Royal Artifact, smart guy?” Devyen smiled widely as he pulled the Seal of Saturn out from under his shirt as it hung around his neck. “Damn, I forgot who I was talking to for a minute there.” Atrus continued on his hunt. The door sounded like it was ready to give under Jenn’s fury.

“Great!” Atrus finally gave up. “I’m a dead man!” Devyen sighed as he stopped fiddling with his tie and walked over to the bathroom door that was linked to their room. He opened the door and walked into the bathroom and fumbled around in the cabinets. He came out and tossed a heavy rolled up towel to his brother.

“What the…” Atrus unrolled the towel. “Hey! You knew where it was the whole time?!”

“Well,” Devyen smiled. “You should have known. You were the one who hid it in the towel cabinet to begin with.”

“I did?” Atrus looked bewildered.

“You put it there for safe keeping, remember?” Devyen went back to his tie. “So you wouldn’t forget it for this day.”

“Damn!” Atrus laughed. He walked over and spun his little brother around. “What would I do without you, bookworm?” Atrus stopped his brother and tied Devyen’s bow. Atrus then ran for the door and opened it.

“I FOUND…!” Atrus received a good knock upside the head from his mother. Then his sister Leona stormed in and punched him hard in the stomach.

“Losing the sword?!” Leona shouted as her brother lay on the floor. “How irresponsible! Do you realize the stress you’re putting our poor mother through! You’re going to kill her!”

“Not unless she kills him first,” Devyen replied. “It’s ok. He’s got the sword. Everything is ready.”

“Except our groom got laid out by his sister,” Jenn rubbed her head. “Leona, it really was unnecessary.”

“I’m sorry mother,” Leona bowed solemnly.

“D-don’t…apologize…to her…” Atrus winced. “Ap…pologize…to me!”

“That’s right,” Leona sarcastically groaned. “You’re the one who should apologize to mother.”

“Urk…”

Keith stood waiting at the secured landing pad as he awaited the arrival of the royal dignitaries of Pluto and the bride. The royal Plutonian shuttle was being escorted by the Saturnian RED (Royal Elite Division) squadron fighters. Their ship slowly came in for a smooth landing and touched down safely. Keith approached to welcome the honored guests. The king and his betrothed daughter were the first to exit. Setsuna wore an astounding gown and veil, and it nearly took Keith’s breath away.

“Beautiful,” Keith complimented the princess on her wedding dress. “Welcome everyone. Your rooms are prepared and everything is on schedule.”

“Very good,” The Plutonian King smiled. “I am pleased with the preparations. Of course I would expect nothing less than the best for my beautiful daughter.” Setsuna blushed at her father’s praise.

“Thank you, Sire,” Setsuna smiled. “And father for your kind words.”

“Well then,” Keith opened the door to the palace. “I’ll show you to your rooms so you can finish your preparations?”

“And your son?” The Plutonian king looked at Keith. “Will he abide by our traditions until after the ceremony?”

“You need not worry,” Keith reassured the King. “My wife has hence forth confined him to the west wing of the palace until the ceremony is ready.”

“Then we shall make ready,” The king smiled as he led his daughter to her appointed room to finish her preparations. Devyen ran up to his father, as he was ready to escort the next arrival of guests.

“You look good, Devyen,” Keith smiled as he straightened his son’s tie. “Don’t be in such a rush. You’ll ruffle up your formal wear before the guests from Jupiter arrive.”

“You’re coming with me, right father?” Devyen nervously stammered. “I mean, I can’t go alone! I mean, I don’t know what to say! I never know what to say! I can’t talk to her! I…I…”

“Calm down,” Keith laughed as he placed his hand on Devyen’s shoulder. “I can’t go with you. I need to join your mother in the west wing. You’ll do fine.”

“But…but…” Devyen stuttered. He blushed slightly. “I never can talk to her…I’m too nervous…what am I supposed to do?”

“Just be yourself,” Keith reassured him. “I’m sure she feels the same way. You both are still young, and the more you spend time together, the easier it will be to talk to one another. You’ll see.” Keith then left his son in the docking bay to await the Jupiter guests.

“Just be myself?” Devyen sighed as he played with his ponytail. “That’s what I’m afraid of…”

Kevin piloted the Jupiter Star Shuttle Jupiter Knight’s Fun. He had a very happy smile lit up on his face. In the back of his mind however, such was not the case. I can’t believe I volunteered to go in the King and Queen’s stead. There is no way I wanted to come and watch this. This is mainly because in about half a year from now my princess is going to get married to the other Saturn Prince. I don’t hate that guy… in fact I hope he makes her happy but man oh man how I wish it was me.

“Is there something wrong sir Jupiter Knight?” Makoto looked over to him from her co-pilot seat.

“No there isn’t my Princess,” Kevin looked down as he said this.

“Bullshit. I know you too well to know when something is eating you.” Kevin didn’t say anything. “It’s my father’s proclamation right?”

“I wish nothing but happiness for you and the well-being of the kingdom that I am the champion of.” Kevin pushed a few buttons as the shuttle continued away from the Jupiter Royal Cruiser Jupiter’s Beauty.

“And you wish no happiness for yourself… or do you even know what would make me happy?”

“I may be the champion of the kingdom but even I’m not at liberty to talk about that.” Kevin saw Saturn start to increase in size on the viewer.

“I also know you wanted to take half the Jupiter Defense Star Fleet here with us.”

“Mako-chan… I have a bad feeling something is going to happen. I just wanted to be prepared. Hell, I had a hard enough time being able to get the strongest Royal Cruiser we had. The Defense Council overrode my authority to bring the strongest battleship JRS Jupiter’s Fury.” Kevin looked at Makoto.

“It’s been almost too long since you called me Mako-chan. Ever since my father made that decree, you have always referred to me as Princess or Jupiter Princess…”

“Please, no guilt trips. I will manage somehow. Besides, I was a very lucky person to even have met you. Had it not been for the fact that I’m the Lightning Tactician, I would never have become a general.” Kevin let his smile drop.

“Ah Kev-chan…” Makoto put her arm around Kevin. “I will always love you as a friend. You will never lose me…”

“Please don’t say that. Also I wouldn’t suggest allowing any of the guard to see us like this. If word got back to your father…”

“One the door is close to the cabin and two, I don’t fear my father.” Makoto gave him a warm smile.

“Thank you Mako-chan. I guess you truly do know how I feel.”

“I could read you like a book. We’ve been so close that we could practically be brother and sister.”

“Man, that sounds wrong when you put it like that.”

Makoto laughed. “Seriously, what do we know about Saturn?”

Kevin typed in some keys and information spilled out. “It says your fiancée is a real book worm. Doesn’t like going out so much. He’s seems to be a pretty good guy however. I have a feeling things will be good.” Kevin looked up, as Saturn loomed closer.

“Please don’t start again Jupiter Knight.”

“Yes ma’am.” Kevin continued. “His older brother, the crown prince has almost started a war between his fiancée’s home planet and his own. However his family has managed to stave this off. He’s a real trouble maker.” Kevin looked at the list. “Damn… some of this stuff makes Mercury Knight look real tame. However Pluto Knight has had his share as well.” Kevin continued on with the rest of the family. At the end he read about Sean. “Cool, this guy has had some fun. I hope I can meet him at the ceremony.”

Makoto shook her head. “You’re trying to start trouble.”

“No, just trying to live up to my shuttle’s name.”

Just then Saturn Space Control hailed them. “J. K.’s Fun, this is Saturn Flight Control.”

“Go ahead Flight Control.” Kevin pushed a button to acknowledge.

“Continue on the path we have provided. You are cleared for immediate landing.”

“Thank you for your help. Fun out.” Kevin depressed the button to the comm. This cut the communications link. “I guess this is it Mako-chan.”

“Guess so. Take us in Kev-chan.” Makoto leaned over and kissed Kevin on the cheek.

Kevin blushed. “Yes ma’am.”

They glided in and set down in the center of the pad. The Saturn royal guard greeted the Jupiter party and Devyen stood back by the door. As Kevin approached with Makoto he could see the young prince fidgeting nervously.

“Hi! Welcome!” Devyen suddenly blurted. He blushed heavily as his eyes met with Makoto’s. “W-welcome to Saturn!”

“I bring greetings from the Alliance of the Holy Royal Kingdom of Jupiter. I am the Champion of the Jupiter Kingdom Jupiter Knight. And to my right is the beautiful Holy Royal Princess of Jupiter. It is a pleasure to be allowed to witness such a beautiful union between two lovers.” Kevin said as honorably and as sincerely as he could.

“Nice to meet you,” Devyen quickly shook Jupiter Knight’s hand, jittering him up a bit. He turned to Makoto and again blushed heavily. “I…I…yuh…*gulp*…Hi?”

“Now come. We aren’t going to hurt you.” Kevin looks at his hand while pondering the nervousness of the handshake. “Why are you so nervous young man?”

“Nervous?” Devyen quickly turned to Kevin with a sheepish smile. “Not at all! Why would I be nervous?! Devyen laughed out loud for a moment and then suddenly settled into a face of seriousness as his poetic sense kicks in. “I have just never beheld such a figment of exalted splendor in my short youth, that I am overcome with anxiety to the brink of my own ignorance.” Everyone stood in awkward silence for a moment as Devyen came back to his senses and realized what he had done. His entire head turned bright red, his eyes widened like dinner plates, and looked like he was about to explode from embarrassment.

“Oh my God!!!” Devyen thought. His eyes quivered, and he began to sweat. “What have I done? I’ve completely embarrassed myself! I am such an IDIOT! They must all think I’m a babbling fool!”

“Damn, I couldn’t say it any better myself.” Kevin laughed a little. “I think she is very beautiful as well.”

“Thanks for the nice compliments guys. Um… if I might inquire, who might you be sir?” Makoto sweat drops a little.
“Eep!” Devyen snaps back to face her, his face still beet red. “I’m Devyen! Youngest Prince of Saturn, and keeper of the Holy Seal of Saturn!” He smiled sheepishly and bowed low. “Damn! I look like a total moron!”

“So this is Devyen. Well, I know who’ll wear the pants in that relationship”. Kevin and Makoto matched his bow. “I hope you don’t mind the honor guard I brought along with the Princess and I.” As about 20 ceremonially dressed troops walk out the back of the shuttle, fully armed but in no way looking like they would use them at all.

“Not at all!” Devyen sprung upright. “The more the merrier! Although, I think mother will have to make a place in the chapel for them. We weren’t expecting this many.” He nervously offered his arm to the princess. “I’ll…um…escort you to the west wing. My parents…uh, the Empress and Emperor are waiting for us to join them. They’ll be glad to see you’ve arrived safely.”

“Excellent. I believe we should arrange for a time that your highness can meet with her highness so you both can get to know each other better.” I’ve said it. My Honor has made me say it and there’s no going back now. “Your highness, we shall take our leave and head to meet with the Empress and Emperor.” He once again bowed.

Makoto smiled and gently took the prince’s arm as he led them out of the dock and through the silver halls of the palace. Devyen was all flustered now with the princess holding his arm, he couldn’t stop talking about everything historical in the palace as they traveled through. He tried to stop on several occasions, but found himself blabbering on sputtering poetic phrases to compliment the princess. Makoto just smiled politely.

“He is quite knowledgeable,” She laughed slightly as she thought. “He’s so nervous too. It’s kind of cute!”

“Jeez, won’t this guy ever shut up?!” Kevin rolled his eyes. “It isn’t right or fair. I am much better suited to protect her and make her happy. Of course my life for my kingdom. Damn, when will I learn to keep my big mouth shut? Now I got to watch this. Somebody shoot me, stab me, just end my misery please.”

Meanwhile in the west wing, Atrus was being badgered by his mother for attempting to sneak out.

“Is there no end to your antics?!” Jenn scolded. “If you break the traditions now, you’ll infuriate Setsuna’s father! He may try to call off the wedding.”

“Aw, c’mon,” Atrus complained. “She just got here. Can’t I at least welcome her family, or something?”

“No!” Jenn crossed her arms. “I already told you, the tradition states there will be no contact what so ever between the betrothed. Be it physical or visual!”

“Looks like someone’s getting a bit eager,” Trent walked into the room, followed by his family. “Save it until after the wedding kid.”

“Pre-wedding jitters, Uncle,” Atrus smiled sheepishly. “I just want to see her, that’s all. It’s been so long already.”

“You’ll be seeing enough of her in due time,” Trent laughed. “Just sit and relax. It’s almost time.” There was a knock at the door, and Devyen entered with the Jupiter Princess and her escort.

“Mother, Father,” Devyen announced. “Princess Makoto and her royal guard have arrived.”

“Yes, I see,” Jenn smiled warmly as she walked over to greet the new guests. She took Makoto’s hand. “Welcome to the Empire my dear. How was your journey from Jupiter?”

“It was great… except I kind of don’t take to flying in shuttles.” She pointed to Jupiter Knight who smiled sheepishly.

“Oh?” Jenn looked curiously at the young knight.

“Your majesty if I may. I went on a test flight of my new shuttle with her and well, I decided to test it’s…limits. I guess it was worse than I thought. I never meant to scare her. My shuttle was aptly name for my fun…”

“I was wondering about that…” Devyen pondered. “Odd name for a ship.”

“Sounds like a good time!” Atrus laughed as he put Devyen in a headlock. “This kid wouldn’t even try stunts like that! He’s too much of a homebody.”

“Atrus!” Devyen gagged. “You’re embarrassing me!” Jenn promptly smacks Atrus away.

“I told you to leave your brother alone!” She scolded.

“Knock it off!” Leona replied with a smack of her own.

“That’s why!” Atrus promptly pointed out. “You two always protect him!”

“Man Prince Atrus I feel for you. Though I haven’t seen my siblings in about three years… my two brothers and four sisters… I know what you’re going through. I’m the eldest but the two oldest sisters decided to jump me one day. They found out the hard way… then my dad taught me that same lesson a few minutes later.”

“You beat up your own sisters?” Aine raised a question.

“You try getting your back raked with claws and being bitten and see how you like it Princess. They didn’t fight in the traditional sense of a duel…”

“Sounds like Kathryn when she doesn’t get her way,” Atrus laughed Kathryn fumed. “I hate to admit it though, but Leona can whoop everyone in the family, except Mom.”

“Best remember that,” Leona replied coldly.

“I will gladly accept that duel at another time. This is a festive occasion and shouldn’t be ruined by swordplay.”

Atrus leaned over and whispered to the young knight. “I’ll arrange your funeral when that day comes.”

Kevin leans back over. “Hopefully it’s a quick death. You don’t want to know the pain I’m in right now…”

“She fights with no mercy,” Atrus glanced at Leona. “Maybe if she really likes you, she’ll kill you softly…”

“What was that?” Leona eyed the two with a look that sent chills down their backs. Atrus shut up and went about his business.

Kevin on the other hand studied his future opponent. He would of course investigate her fighting style. He wasn’t the Lightning Tactician for nothing. “I am always looking to strengthen myself by learning from my own mistakes and learning from my opponents. I’m sure you are always seeking a worthy challenge. I only hope on that day, I will be a worthy challenge.”

“Instead of seeking unreasonable goals,” Leona coldly replied. “You should focus on the value of your short lived youth before seeking punishment from death. Keep dreaming kid.”

“You don’t understand. Everyday I’m always at death’s door. Thankfully I haven’t been admitted but a general and a champion must be ready to die at anytime.” He did not have a cocky smile or any sign of over-confidence. Only respect for others radiated from him.

“Wasted youth…” Leona sighed.

“Ok, that’s enough,” Keith motioned for Leona to take a seat. “Let’s focus on the ceremony.”

Kevin bowed, “Forgive my impudence. I apologize for my past words.”

“Don’t worry about it,” Jenn smiled. She looked at her brother. “So you decided to leave Sean behind? It’s too bad. I was hoping you’d change your mind.”

“Ah, I was looking forward to meeting the legendary Sean too.” Kevin embellished.

“Legendary?” The twins piped up.

“Since when…” Crysta started.

“Is Sean a Legend?” Pyra finished.

“I apologize for my Knight here. He just recently learned about Sean so…” Makoto smiled sheepishly.

“That would make him a legend to me since about thirty minutes prior to landing.” Kevin smiled jokingly.

“Dear God…” Trent muttered as he shook his head. “His stupidity has spread across the galaxy…”

“No,” Beth sighed. “Even I couldn’t budge him on the matter. He’s so stubborn.” She jabs him with her elbow.

“The lesson will do him good,” Trent replied as he recoiled from his wife’s assault. “He needs to learn not to take things so lightly and forget about his responsibilities.”

“Unlike some of us,” Leona eyed her eldest brother.

“Back off Leona,” Atrus warned. “I’m not in the mood for your criticism.”

“Ok, you two,” Trent sat down. “Something tells me there’s a story behind this…”

“The Clown Prince lost the Sword of Saturn,” Leona replied.

“I did not!” Atrus fired back. “I only temporarily misplaced it! I’ve got it right here!” He points at the sword at his belt. Kevin looked down at his side and felt there to make sure the Sword of Jupiter was still there.

“Misplaced?” Elizabeth laughed lightly.

“Nephew…” Trent rubbed his head. “Even I couldn’t forgive you for that…”

“But I didn’t lose it!” Atrus defended himself.

“That’s not the point,” Trent continued. “You were given a special duty to that artifact. It signifies that you are a man with responsibility. To arrogantly ignore that duty and treat such a right as a worthless burden demonstrates that you are not yet a man. If that is the case, you shouldn’t even be getting married.”

Atrus stood in shock to his uncle’s words. The rest of the family stood silently as the meaning of Trent’s words sunk in. Suddenly the silence was broken by Keith’s voice.

“I’m afraid he’s right,” Keith agreed. He walked over to his son. “It’s time you stopped being so reckless and act more responsible. You are about to be married, with a wife and later a family of your own. If you are going to be the support for your family as well as a royal figurehead, you need to stand tall as a man, and leave the troublesome little boy behind.” Atrus took up a serious face and nodded.

“The time has come,” Jenn smiled. “Let’s head over to the chapel and prepare for the ceremony.”

Meanwhile, in the darkness of space, enemy eyes were watching the events unfold on the planet. No one suspected a thing as the people gathered and celebrated all across the world a joyous event that was ready to commence.

“Foolish creatures,” A woman laughed as she gazed into her orb. “By Metallia, the fools don’t even suspect a thing. To think, they are the biggest threat in this system to our plans, and they are completely oblivious to the presence of my armies. Once they are out of the way, the other planets won’t be so difficult. We’ll swarm forward and envelope the entire Sol System in the name of Metallia!”

“Queen Beryl,” A Dark General approached. “The forces are ready to move out. We await your command to attack the Saturnian home world.”

“Excellent,” She replied. “Go back and wait for me. It’ll be time very soon. We must wait only a little while longer…”

Everyone was in place in the chapel. Jenn and Keith were making sure Atrus and the groomsmen were looking straight, while the princesses helped usher people into the chapel. Jenn hurried up to her son and straightened his garb.

“You look so handsome,” She beamed. “Your father and I are so proud of you.”

“Thanks mom,” Atrus smiled. “I’m still a bit nervous though.”

“That’s normal,” Keith laughed. “Don’t worry. You’ll be fine.” Hotaru suddenly came running up to her parents.

“Papa! Papa!” She looked scared. Keith quickly picked her up and quieted her down.

“What’s wrong?” Keith asked, a bit concerned.

“I don’t want to be here,” She said with frightened tears in her eyes. “I feel scared. I don’t know why. Something bad is going to happen.” She buried her face in Keith’s chest.

“There, there,” Keith tried to comfort her. “Nothing bad is going to happen, Hotaru. This is a happy day for the empire. Everything’s fine.”

“But,” Hotaru looked back up at her father. “Papa, I’m scared.”

“You can stay with papa,” Keith reassured her. “I’ll keep you safe, so you don’t have to be scared, OK?”

“You promise?” She hugged him.

“Yes,” He returned the hug. “I promise.”

“Ok now,” Jenn hurried down from the stage. “Let’s take our places. Everything is ready.” They took their seats in the front of the chapel. Atrus fidgeted as he waited for Setsuna to arrive. He looked through the crowd at his family and siblings. Devyen looked nervous too, but only because he was sitting with his betrothed princess, and he was always shy about talking to her.

Kevin looked over to his princess and her betrothed. “I still have a really bad feeling princess. I only get this feeling when something like an attack is going to go down.”

“Stop worrying about it Sir Junior. I’m sure everything is going to fine.” Though Makoto had a bit of a sinking feeling as well she chose to ignore it.

“My intuition has never been wrong and I trust it now.”

“Enough. If you want to sit in…

“Please do not complete that sentence Princess for both our sakes. I’ll sit quietly then.” Kevin had a somber look on his face as he looked down at his sword and silently vowed to let nothing happen to Makoto no matter what the cost.

Atrus then spotted Leona, who sat with Kathryn and Aine. Leona watched him steadily with her judgmental eyes, and Kathryn was snickering and whispering to Aine, who just sat there listening. Aine smiled and waved at him, and Atrus grinned back. He then looked down and noticed the ring bearer was playing with the rings on the pillow, and it irritated him.

“Hey! Kid!” He harshly whispered. The boy, Andrew (7) from the house of Wind and Thunder, looked up at the Crown Prince. “If you lose either of those rings, or screw this up in any possible way, I will personally rip out your skull and beat you with it!” The boy flinched slightly and stopped playing with the rings. He heard Leona snicker and knew she saw what he had done. Finally the music started. Atrus snapped at attention as the doors to the chapel opened. Everyone turned to see the bride arrive, guided by the arm of her father. The chapel filled with awe at the beautiful sight of the bride. The King of Pluto stood tall and proud as he walked his daughter down the aisle. Setsuna looked a bit nervous as well as she stiffly walked with her father. Atrus flinched slightly as he tried to see her face, but with no success with the veil over her face. Finally she reached the stage and alter. She stood before her beloved prince, and awaited the words of the high priest. Finally everyone was called to silence. The High Priest approached the couple and blessed them.

“On this day,” The priest began. “We shall witness the joining of two kingdoms, two different worlds, but most of all, we shall witness the joining of two hearts. Atrus, Crown Prince of the Empire of Saturn, and Setsuna, Princess of the Kingdom of Pluto. Together you two share an eternal bond, and you will solidify this bond with your vows of marriage this day. May the blessings of all Time and Space be with you as you both venture forth to a new future in the Sol System. Who here gives this woman to this man to be wed in the holy nuptial tradition?”

“I do,” The Plutonian King Spoke, and then took his seat.

“Prince Atrus,” The priest addressed the young man. “Will you cherish, honor and love this woman? Be a source of strength, and protect her? To have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for as long as you both shall live, til death do you part?”

“I do,” Atrus smiled, as he never let his gaze wander from Setsuna. “And always will.” He could hear his mother sob in the background.

“Princess Setsuna,” The priest turned. “Will you stand by this man loyally? Support and provide a strong foundation of love and devotion? To care and to keep, in sickness and in health, for as long as you both shall live, til death do you part?”

“I do,” Setsuna’s eyes gleamed. “For all time.”

“Then if we may have the rings,” The priest motioned to the ring bearer. “You may seal your nuptial agreement with your exchange of vows and rings.” Atrus and Setsuna each took a ring in hand. Atrus took Setsuna’s hand and placed the ring on her finger.

“Setsuna,” Atrus spoke. “I’ve loved you since that fateful night. Despite all the risks it took to court you, even against your father’s wishes and the threat of war, I was willing to peruse your heart.”

“Wait a minute!” Devyen gulped. “That’s not the vows I wrote for him!” He looked through a handful of notes.

“Give it a rest,” Aine whispered behind him. “He’s speaking from his heart. I think this is much better.”

“I love you,” Atrus continued. “You and no other. For all of eternity, my heart and my soul are one with you.”

“Even though it meant disobeying the wishes of my Father,” Setsuna spoke as she place the ring on Atrus’ finger. “I gave my heart to you, and let the love blossom within myself. Though the risks you took were a bit extreme and extravagant, you completely won me over. For as long as the sands of time flow, I am forever yours. My ever beloved.”

“Now with their vows exchanged,” The priest spoke up. “And their rings of golden eternity to bind their hearts. The time has come to complete this union with the fated kiss of devotion.” Atrus stiffened. This was the moment he had been waiting for. He gently lifted her veil revealing Setsuna’s lovely face. Her dark eyes sparkled, as she looked deep into Atrus’. He leaned forward and she closed her eyes. Everyone seemed to be anticipating the kiss as they were all on the edge of their seats, the air filled with tension.

“This stuff makes me cry.” Makoto had tears starting to well up in her eyes. Devyen offered her a handkerchief.

“Gah… It’s good I guess.” Kevin smiled genuinely but his hands were crossed in front of him. However, he still had a very bad persistent feeling.

Atrus was only a breath away from kissing Setsuna, when a sudden explosion outside the chapel shook the building with its shock. Atrus quickly pulled Setsuna close and covered her with his arms and body as debris began falling from the ceiling. The people in the crowd began to panic and cower in their seats, screaming in terror as explosions began to erupt throughout the realm. Quickly a wounded soldier stumbled into the chapel.

“Surprise attack…” The soldier sputtered. “Enemy…unknown…”

“Scramble all defenses!” The Empress demanded. “Move now! Devine retribution will answer their spineless decree of war!”

“Atrus!” Keith quickly moved towards his son. He handed Hotaru to his oldest. “Take Setsuna and Hotaru to safety! Get them out of here!”

“Papa! No!” Hotaru cried. “I wanna stay with you! You promised!”

“I’m sorry, Hotaru,” Keith hugged her. “But it’s too dangerous here. Atrus, take all of them to the shuttles. They need to be evacuated to safety. Go!” Atrus nodded and took his bride and youngest sister and guided them to the immediate exit.

“Devyen!” Keith turned to his other son. “Get the Jupiter dignitaries out of here! Follow your brother to the shuttles and evacuate them!”

“Uh, right!” Devyen took Makoto’s hand. He could feel the fear deep within, but pushed it aside as he saw the frightened look in Makoto’s eyes. “This is no time for me to be scared,” Devyen thought. “I have to be strong. Be brave. I have to protect her!”

“KUSO!!! I knew something bad was going to happen. Jupiter Imperial Guards… prepare to repel borders! Princess, we need to get you out of here and mount a proper defense.” Kevin whipped out the Jupiter Sword and instantly his suit was replaced by his armor.

“I’m sorry my Jupiter Knight. I apologize for not listening to you and not trusting your gut feelings.” She put her hand on his now armored shoulder.

“Now is not the time to place blame. It is my responsibility to protect you and now I have my chance. We have good soldiers and good allies.” He turned to Leona. “I pledge what soldiers I have to helping you defend.”

“Then have them join the charging ranks!” Leona pulled out her sword and whip. “The honored royal guard under my command will lead the charge into the enemy forces! Let’s go!” The warrior princess led the troops from the chapel and mustered all forces outside, before leading the charge into the advancing dark forces.

“Hurry, come this way!” Devyen led the way out of the chapel. Enemy and allied troops were fighting all around them as they fled through the battle.

“CHARGE JUPITER IMPERIAL GUARDS!!!” Kevin stuck his sword forward and charged. He had to cut a hole in the enemy lines in order to successfully get to his own shuttle. “LET US SHOW THEM THAT JUPITER IS A FEARSOME ALLY!!! PROTECT THE PRINCESS AND PRINCE AT ALL COSTS!!!”

“FOR JUPITER!!! FOR SATURN!!! FOR THE ALLIANCE!!!” His troops yelled as they drew their swords and attacked the youma and human soldiers. They were very gallant in their fighting as they broke the line and allowed the three leaders to run through. Saturn soldiers took advantage of their temporary gain and plunged through the hole that had been created.

“Prince Devyen, Princess Makoto… please stay close to me and these two. We will do everything we can to prevent any unnecessary tragedy.” Kevin looked at the two dignitaries and surveyed the battlefield. All around soldiers were dying. Many small skirmishes continued to take place all around them. Incineration grenades went off taking out groups of soldiers on both sides.

Meanwhile back at the chapel the building had become dangerously unstable. Jenn ordered Kathryn and Aine to guide the guests to safety as she herself rushed out with her court to face the enemy in battle. Elemental attacks were strewn about tearing into the dark forces. Keith joined his wife in combat as they both charged fearlessly. Kathryn and Aine were busy guiding guests into the palace’s great halls, when suddenly a dark ki attack destroyed what was left of the chapel, collapsing it atop several guests and the princesses as well.

“Sisters!” Leona roared with fury. “I will avenge your deaths! Die monsters!” She unleashed her deadly Energy Compression into the hoards, crushing and twisting their bodies before completely imploding the enemy forces caught in its power.

On Titan:

Sean dropped his books and ran outside when the screaming began. Enemy flyers were invading Titan’s airspace and chaos was erupting all around the city of Nirvana. Sean turned his eyes to the golden planet of Saturn and could see the dark battles erupting from her surface.

“Young master!” A servant ran up to him. “You must get inside! You’ll be safe there!”

“Mother…Father…” Sean didn’t move his eyes. The servant tried to pull him towards the manor but he jerked away. “This is no time to hide! Father would never hide!” Sean ran in the direction of the main parliament building. “Get me in contact with our main strike force! Launch an immediate offensive counterstrike! Call all ground defenses to order and bring the ion cannons online! Activate all defense satellites and drive the enemy back!” The militia was immediately launched, and all strike forces took to the air to engage the enemy flyers.

On Saturn:

Atrus had reached the shuttle launch area and was helping his sister and bride into the craft with the other Pluto dignitaries. Setsuna tried to pull him in as well.

“I can’t leave,” Atrus told her. “I have to go back and help my family!”

“Atrus no!” She cried. “Come with me! Don’t go back!”

“So long as I carry this,” He held up the Sword of Saturn. “It is my duty to defend my home world with the rest of my family. As the Crown Prince, this is my responsibility!” Setsuna wept and embraced him tightly. He returned the embrace and whispered to her. “I will return to you and seal our marriage with our long awaited devotion. I promise.”

“Atrus…” Setsuna sobbed as she took one last look into his eyes.

“Take care of my wife, little one,” Atrus gave a playful wink to Hotaru before backing away from the shuttle door as it sealed shut. He stood back as the shuttle took off carrying his beloved to safe haven. He then turned to the approaching enemy forces as they charged forward to the launch pads and the launching shuttles.

“No you don’t,” Atrus sneered as he unsheathed his holy sword. “You won’t touch her! I won’t let you touch her!”

On Titan:

Units were scrambling. Enemy fighters were taking heavy casualties as the ion cannons were engaged. Allied forces were gaining a distinctive advantage in the air as the disabling effects of the ions were taking its toll. Ground forces were fighting hand to hand with the enemy forces and were firmly holding their ground. Sean remained at the main parliament building distributing orders as he had seen his father do in all the drills up to this day. Reports were coming in all throughout the airways.

“All other moons are reporting in,” a soldier reported. “Enemy forces have invaded the colonies. All defensive and offensive measures are currently engaged in their own space.”

“How can the enemy be this big?” Sean pondered. “Their forces have restricted all our military to their own sectors, and forcing them to fight and defend their own colonies. How could they have hidden such a large force so close to our borders?!”

On Saturn:

Queen Beryl appeared to oversee the ensuing battle on Saturn. She was pleased with the merciless tactics her forces used as they drove back the Saturnian soldiers. She then turned her attention to the hoard advancing on the spaceport. The sudden discharge of compressed energy in the area drew her interest.

Leona and her royal guard had fallen back to defend the spaceport from the monsters. Atrus had joined her and together they held back the dark forces.

“Keep pushing!” Leona ordered. “We can’t let them take the spaceport! Fight with all you’ve got!”

“Hotaru and Setsuna are safely on their way!” Atrus informed his sister as he gestured to the shuttle above them. He then slashed at the hoards with his holy sword, unleashing a powerful energy wave that ripped a huge hole in the dark forces.

“He got them!” Setsuna cheered. The shuttle was preparing to fly to a higher altitude, but Setsuna insisted on keeping her husband in view.

“Looks like there’s hope for you yet!” Leona smiled at her brother. “Let’s show these beasts what happens when they mess with the royal family!” Together they combined their attacks, dealing masses of damage into the enemy. Beryl smiled wickedly at the sight of the royal siblings together.

“I couldn’t ask for a better target,” She grinned as she powered up an attack. “Two birds with one stone.” She hurled the dark mass at their position. Atrus and Leona didn’t see the attack until it was too late. Leona shoved her brother back as the attack landed right in front of them and exploded with a terrible force. Leona was killed instantly, and Atrus was thrown back fatally wounded. Atrus struggled to turn his head to face the sky, where he could see Setsuna’s shuttle. He could barely see his beloved’s face in the window as she cried and pounded on the pane.

“S…Set…suna…chan,” He quietly whispered. He reached his hand towards the sky. “G…gomen…ne…” He fell silent and his hand dropped lifelessly. Soon his body disappeared beneath the swarming forces. Setsuna cried out in vain as her shuttle soared out of sight and out to space.

In the heart of Akira:

Jenn and her court were tearing apart the advancing forces. The dark forces were trying to separate the court to weaken their abilities, but were having little success. Jenn stumbled slightly as she sensed the deaths of Leona and Atrus. The loss of Kathryn and Aine had already hit her hard and the pain was more than she could bear.

“Keith!” She cried.

“What’s wrong?” He rushed to her side.

“They killed them!” She cried. “Atrus and Leona! They’re gone!” Keith said nothing at first as the shock of his wife’s words sank into his heart like a cold knife.

“Send an S.O.S!” Keith ordered over his communicator. “Send a message to all allies! The war has consumed our entire empire! We are being overwhelmed!” The communication center sent a message out on all frequencies to their closest allies.

On Uranus:

“Sire!” A messenger rushed into the royal hall. “We are receiving an urgent call from the Saturnian Empire. They have fallen prey to a surprise enemy attack. Heavy casualties are being taken and they are requesting assistance.” The King sat forward in his throne and closed his eyes in thought. The queen looked at her husband momentarily, and then back at the messenger.

“Send no word,” She ordered. The messenger looked up in shock, while the king didn’t move.

“Majesty?” The messenger asked.

“Do as she says,” The king looked up. “Too long have we sat in Saturn’s shadow. Her radiance out shining her allies, and boasting of power with their stand-alone attitude. Let them hold up their boast and support their claims now, for they never needed help from the beginning.”

“But my lord!” The messenger protested. “Their message seems dire! Should we not send some form of assistance?”

“No,” The king rose. “Send no word. The Saturnians have been well known for their destructive powers. And their empress is rumored to be the most powerful ever born. Let them handle the nuisance. If it were to concern us, we would have been attacked as well.”

“As you wish, sire,” The messenger bowed.

On Saturn:

The enemy was closing in on the royal court. Beryl hurled a dark attack at the heart of the court, scattering them apart and making them more vulnerable. Chad flew up into the sky trying to evade the invaders attacks and to gain some open area of ground. He was immediately struck down by a boomerang-like ki attack that ripped clean through his wings and sent him plummeting to the ground. Completely stunned by the sudden amputation and fall he was helpless as he was overtaken by the enemy soldiers, and consumed by death’s darkness.

Domonique and her daughters Sue and Nami tried to sweep the area with their water and shockwave attacks to free Chad’s body, but to no avail. The enemy’s numbers were just too great, and kept advancing on them. Suddenly a powerful ki shot tore into Domonique’s back and passed through her chest, like a dark energy bullet was fired from behind. Her daughters didn’t even see her fall until she lost control of her element and sent a powerful wave of water flooding the entire area drowning the enemy forces, and taking her children with it as well. Domonique then passed on, and the floodwaters subsided.

“Any word from our allies?!” Keith demanded.

“Nothing yet sire!” the response came over the communicator. “We are still sending transmissions!”

On Neptune:

“Urgent message from Saturn!” An officer rushed into the royal chambers. “They are at war! An unknown enemy has attacked and is overwhelming them!”

“Could it be true?” The queen looked at her husband. “The strength of Saturn is falling?”

“What of our sister planet, Uranus?” The king asked. “What do they have to say in response to the call?”

“There hasn’t been any response, sire,” The messenger reported. “They don’t seem to be mobilizing to assist Saturn.”

“Must merely be speculation then,” The king dismissed the call. “If Uranus sees no immediate danger, then we will follow suit. Until Uranus answers, we will not answer.”

On Saturn:

Devyen stopped short as he saw the spaceport was completely overrun. He spotted some dark troops bearing down on them.

“Get back!” He shouted as he unleashed his Energy Blast to knock back the enemy forces. He pulled the Jupiter princess and their guard into some cover. Makoto huddled in Devyen’s arms as they hid from the rampaging forces outside their position.

“Great!” Kevin slammed his fist into a wall. “The spaceport is lost! Now what do we do?!”

“There is one way,” Devyen spoke. “There’s a special hanger father had built. It was for emergency evacuations for the royal family. We can either go there, or try our luck to get to the public evacuation area.” He pointed to the large area where several barge like passenger ships were taking off.

“We’ll never make it,” Makoto pointed out. “That site is all the way across the city and the battle is right in the middle of our path.”

“Let’s try our luck with the secret hanger,” Kevin replied. “Is it far?”

“No, it’s under the palace,” Devyen pointed out. “But the enemy has already infiltrated the outer walls. It’ll still be very dangerous getting there. I only hope the guard can hold off the dark forces from reaching the inner sanctum.”

“Then let’s go,” Kevin stood up. “The longer we stay here, the sooner we will be found out. Let’s get moving. You’ll be our guide through the palace, prince. Just leave getting there up to us.” He looked at the other Jupiter guards with them. Devyen nodded and they fled their hiding place, fighting their way to reach the palace.

Jupiter Knight’s Fun, set self-destruct sequence. Silent count-down, 5 seconds.” Kevin moved his communicator to his face.

“Awaiting authorization code.”

“Jupiter Knight, Kilo-eight-hotel-one-three.”

“Code accepted… self-destruct in five seconds. This is last warning.”

“Keep alert everyone.”

Deep in Akira:

Meanwhile, Jannette and Aaron fired of wind and lightning attacks simultaneously to fend off the dark forces closing in on them.

“Damn!” Aaron sneered. “We’re completely cut off! We won’t be able to hold out with only our offensive elements!”

“My God!” Jannete exclaimed. “Aaron! Over there!” He turned to see their children running for them amidst the killing.

“Sara! Andrew! Run away!” Aaron shouted, but the children ran blindly forward trying desperately to reach their parents. A dark soldier took a strike at the two running figures, taking down the boy as he trailed his sister. Sara stopped in her tracks as she turned back screaming for her little brother to get up.

“Sara!” Jannette charged forth with her dagger. She had watched the monster slay her son, and was not going to lose her daughter as well. The soldier raised his weapon so strike at the hysterical little girl, when a blast of wind suddenly knocked him back and he was now face to face with two fiery green eyes. Jannette mercilessly slashed the enemy’s throat. Though the soldier was human, and spewed human blood, Jannette could only see a monster before her. Sara grasped her mother’s leg, crying over the body of her brother Andrew. Jennette took up her daughter and fled back to where Aaron was still fighting.

“Jannette!” Aaron warned. “Watch your back!” An enemy soldier was rushing his wife with a heavy spear. With her daughter in her arms Jannette couldn’t fight back. Aaron fired off a thunderbolt and struck the charging soldier. The solder fell to his knees and Jennette continued to run as Aaron fought to make his way to her as well. The dark soldier pulled himself up and with the last of his life and strength, pulled his arm back and hurled the spear through the air. The weapon struck Jannette through the back and pierced both her and her daughter in her arms. Aaron caught their falling bodies as he reached them too late.

“JANNETTE!” He screamed. “SARA! NOOOOO!” His fury was unleashed in a sudden flash of electrical waves. He burst forth a furious barrage of electrical bolts; it looked like a swell of thunder and lightning deep within the dark masses.

Devyen and the others paused for a moment at the sight of the luminous spectacle deep within the city as the lighting reached all the way to the tip of the blackening sky.

“The House of Thunder…” Devyen whispered in awe. “The fury of his loss is evident.”

“My thunder is nothing compared to that…” Kevin said somberly.

“Sir, we must continue moving.”

The thunder came to an abrupt silence as a huge ball of dark ki barreled into the heart of the lightning spire, tearing the element apart as it collided with it’s core. Aaron lay dying with the bodies of his wife and children. As he wept his last tear, he gripped his wife’s hand tightly as a Dark General stood over his body and delivered the last blow and the lightning orb atop Aaron’s cane shattered.

On Titan:

Sean saw the electrical anomaly from visual radar. He knew something tragic had happened on Saturn and he worried for his family. He remembered the last words he had exchanged with his father the day before.

“Mother, Father,” He muttered to himself. “Please be safe. Come back. Come back home!”

On Saturn:

The shuttle Jupiter Knight’s Fun detonated inside the spaceport taking out the inner building and collapsing the structure. The blast and destruction took several dark soldiers with it, and turned the attention of the rest of the dark forces. A majority of the invaders rushed from their positions to investigate the blow and to see who had delivered the devastating attack.

“Suck on that you dishonorable pieces of kuso!” Kevin yelled.

“That seemed to have gotten a lot of attention sir.” One of the guards who had been monitoring the area had noticed.

“Jupiter Knight, this is the Beauty... Are you or the princess hurt?”

“No but scramble fighters and relay a message to the Jupiter Fleet. Have them start mobilizing with all haste. We may yet be able to turn this disastrous battle.”

“Aye sir. Beauty out.”

“They must have seen the shuttle’s detonation.” Makoto commented.

“And here I thought we lost all communiqué too.” Kevin took on a unsuspecting enemy soldier, killing him instantly.

“Looks like most of the outer wall was left wide open,” Devyen pointed out. “This would be our best chance to get in while the dark forces are distracted. We’d better hurry though, it won’t take long for them to regroup and return.”

“Sounds like good tactical sense to me. I say if we’ve got to die today though, we give them Hell before we go.”

“Die?!” Devyen exclaimed. “I thought that’s what we were trying to avoid!”

“Moh!” Makoto scolded. “Did you have to say something like that at a time like this?! You’ve already been giving them Hell.” Makoto huffed.

“Correction, that’s what we’re trying to avoid happening to you two. My life is… well, it’s good motivation for the troops.” The troops cheered as they charged another group of enemies in their path. They made their way through the outer gates and hurried into the inner walls of the palace. Surviving guards opened the main doors allowing them to enter the inner sanctum. By then the enemy troops had returned, and were tearing down the inner walls with greater numbers. Devyen led the way to the secret hanger entrance. He opened the keypad and tried to remember the right combination to open the secret door. Saturnian guards were being pushed back as the hoards broke into the inner sanctum, hurling ki and projectile explosives, killing allied soldiers as they went. Devyen finally punched in the correct sequence, and the secret door opened in the far wall. They turned to enter the door when a handful of shrapnel grenades fell in their path.

“My God! Get down!” Devyen tackled Makoto and covered her with his body when the explosives went off. Kevin on the other hand, had a slower reaction time and took part of the explosion. His armor protected him however from most of the damage but some still cut his legs and exposed parts of his arm. Two of his soldiers didn’t fair any better as they went down dead.

“Devyen?” Makoto softly called. He didn’t answer and felt very heavy as she pushed the prince off. “Devyen!” She screamed as she looked at the young prince’s body. His back was shredded from the shrapnel explosion. He had taken the full force of the blast to protect her. She continued to call his name and he lay limp in her arms. He opened his eyes for a moment and glanced up at Makoto.

“Princess…” He whispered as he tried to touch her face. “…So…elegant…beautiful…” He fell limp and his eyes closed. Makoto looked up at Kevin, her eyes pleading and her hands covered in the prince’s blood.

“Jupiter Knight,” She cried. “Kev-chan, do something! Save him!”

“I’m no field medic,” He softly said, then his face harden as he turned to his remaining soldiers. “Hey Cortez! Get over here!” Cortez looked over the Prince for a second.

“Sir, his wounds are severe. I will need to get him to the Beauty to operate.”

“We’re losing him.” Another said.

“Hurry, get him to the shuttle. Cortez, bandage those wounds quickly. We must save his life. He is the Crown Prince of Saturn now.” Kevin issued out commands to both Saturn and Jupiter soldiers. The Saturn soldiers had joined up to help protect the Prince or had been saved along the way. Jupiter Knight and Makoto hoisted Devyen’s body over their shoulders and carried him with them down into the hanger.

Down in the secret hanger they found the shuttle Devyen had spoke of. Definitely of a different alien design, since the shuttle itself appeared more like a fighter than a transport. The design was sleek with streamline set wings, duel laser manipulators on the wings, two lock-on multi missile launchers on each side of the cockpit, and a photon launcher with three charges placed directly below the nose of the ship. It was obvious, the emperor wanted to protect his family, even while escaping.

“Whoa, this is some nice tech! I love this already. Let see if she loves me back.” Kevin made sure everyone was strapped in and went for an immediate launch. The shuttle purred in his hands and moved with elegance and style, but also with power and strength. “Juptar, this is a kick ass ride.”

“Sir, I found a dark general. I have him on screen with full frontal view. Now we will see just who or what is behind these dark armies.” The soldier punched in a few buttons and the view shocked everyone… most of all the two Jupiters.

“Mori…” Makoto’s eyes bulged.

“…sato.” Kevin’s got just as big.

“How could he?” Makoto now started to cry more. She had just about lost her fiancée and now her brother.

“He looks possessed. It would also explain why he’s been missing,” Kevin felt his stomach in knots. “I’m going in for an attack run!”

“NO! We must save Devyen!” Makoto insisted.

“We could end the war, even at the… what am I saying. Killing the Prince I consider a brother. Priority is to save Devyen.”

“Incoming attack fighters sir. Mixture of enemies and our own. They seem to be engaged in heated battle.”

“Then let’s at least clean a little house.”

Elsewhere, in Akira:

“Our allies have abandoned us!” Trent snarled as he incinerated more dark troops with a blaze of fire. “This is getting us no where! There are too many of them!”

“I can’t find the girls!” Elizabeth cried. “They don’t seem to be anywhere!”

“I can’t worry about that now!” Trent encircled himself and his wife in a ring of fire. “We’ll have to hope for the best, should we even survive this day ourselves!”

“What about Sean?!” His wife pleaded. “Do you think he’s alright on Titan?”

“Right now,” Trent said as he slashed apart a dark soldier with his katana. “He’s better off than we are. Leaving him behind probably saved his life.”

“But,” She turned her eyes to the moon Titan. Suddenly a monstrous arm reached out and grasped her throat. It carried her up into the air and slammed her down hard into the ground. Trent was cut off and couldn’t reach her as the monster closed in on Elizabeth. It tore its claws into her body, and mocked her dying expression. With her last ounce of strength she reached out and grabbed a hold of the monster’s body. She gave a tearful glance to her husband who was tearing through the armies like hell to try and reach his wife.

Trent…dear heart…” She whispered. “…sorry…”

“Beth, don’t!” Trent leapt to try and reach her.

“Goodbye,” She closed her eyes and unleashed her ultimate ice glacier, spreading it out across the battlefield and towering high as a mountainous wall of solid ice. Enemy forces caught in its wake were frozen in their tracks and locked in a permanent prison of ice. Trent could see Elizabeth’s body sealed within the glass like ice. He pounded furiously on the clear surface screaming her name. He then heard behind him more enemy troops mustering to try and take him down. Trent turned to face them, his burning katana in hand and his eyes ablaze with a luminous green glow.

“So now you’ve come for me?” He sneered as he raised his blood-tainted sword. “Then come and get me!” The enemy answered his daring challenge and charged forward. “Phoenix Flare!” He cried. The area was suddenly ablaze and turned into a pit of fire. Trent was consumed by the flames and in his stead birthed a massive firebird that ripped through the hoards before it. It screamed furiously as it burned, consuming all in its path not like a phoenix of life, but as a deliverer from hell.

On Titan:

Sean saw the massive heat readings on the surface of Saturn, and he knew. He ran outside and saw the firebird as it burned across the distant surface of Saturn. In his heart he feared the worst.

“Dad’s ultimate flame…” He muttered. “They’re dying!” Sean ran to the nearest launch pad to find a craft or shuttle. Several guards stopped him from boarding a ship as he hysterically fought to get airborne.

“Young master!” They shouted. “What are you doing?! There are too many enemy fighters in the area! You won’t be able to get anywhere with these conditions! You’d be safer in a shelter!”

“Let go of me!” Sean demanded. “Let me go! I have to go! Mom and Dad need help! I have to go to them!”

“There is no hope,” A soldier pushed him back. “Even as your father’s ultimate flame burns right now, we’d never be able to reach Saturn in time to be of any assistance! The master would never forgive us, if we let you recklessly throw your life away on a lost hope.”

“And I will never forgive you!” Sean still fought to board the ship. “Let me do as I wish! Let me go to them!”

“I’m sorry, young master,” The soldier suddenly hit Sean hard in the stomach, knocking the fight and wind out of him. The soldier looked at the guards. “Take him to safe haven and guard him with your lives. Our Lord commands it.”

In Saturn’s Airspace:

As the shuttle continued to ride Kevin was still angry. No reinforcements had showed up for the allies and he couldn’t do anything because he had a dying prince and a heart-broken princess to worry about.

“Sir, I have that targeting data.”

“Then it’s time to show no mercy! Baby, show me the true power you possess and avenge your dying people! SUCK ON THIS!!!” Kevin yelled into the comm. unit as multiple torpedoes and laser cannons fired away at the enemy. Many of the enemy starfighters had been caught off guard and were destroyed. Those who managed to dodge or survive did not do so for much longer. The combined Jupiter and Saturn starfighters proved too much for the enemy and destroyed what was left. Then the Jupiter and Saturn fighters formed up on the shuttle.

“Shuttle, identify yourself.”

“Hmmm, it’s name RSTS Destiny however, I like Saturn’s Revenge better.”

Destiny, this is the Jupiter’s Screeching Eagles Squadron.”

“And the rest of us make up what’s left of the Saturn RED Squadron. We thank you for your assistance.”

“No problem. However we are carrying an injured Saturn prince and need to make for the Beauty as fast as possible.”

“We can break open the hole you’ll need.” The lead Jupiter pilot offered.

“Thank you. Also, is the invasion taking place on the satellites as well?” Kevin asked trying to get a grasp for the situation.

“Yes, everywhere Saturn’s glory reached, they are attacking.” One of the pilots said choking back tears.

“Then we need to hurry. Jupiter should have the fleet prepared by the time I get back there. Hopefully we won’t be too late.” The shuttle and the fighters climbed into outer space.

On Saturn:

The firebird continued to burn across the surface of the planet, when the witch Beryl herself decided to engage the bird of death. She launched an immense Ki blast directed at the heart of the bird. The bird screamed an eerie cry as the ki tore through the fire and dispersing the summoned creature. Trent fell to the ground, heavily damaged but still held on to his will to fight. The luminous green glow hadn’t faded from his eyes, as he stood ready with his sword facing the witch.

“So you are the brother of the empress,” Beryl grinned wickedly. “I’ve heard you are the most powerful Saturnian next to your sister. Looks like the rumors were true. It will bring me great pleasure to take your life personally.”

“I’m not so easily defeated,” Trent sneered. “You want to kill me? Go ahead and try!”

“Very confident,” Beryl laughed. “Let’s raise the steaks then…” She raised her hands, and the bodies of Crysta and Pyra hovered alongside the witch. The girls were savagely beaten but still alive, and they turned their eyes to their father, pleading.

“My God…” Trent’s eyes returned to normal. “You bitch!”

“They say you never miss,” Beryl mocked his abilities. “If that is true, then you won’t have any trouble killing me even with your little girls in the way.” Beryl charged forward bringing his helpless daughters with her as she dared his attack. Trent took a step back, hesitating to strike with his twins being used like human shields. Beryl rushed past him, slashing across his chest with her claw like nails and knocking him back. Trent covered the wound with his free arm as he again turned to face the witch. She had already turned and was charging him again. Trent also charged forward, still debating in his mind of whether or not he should strike. As the distance between himself and his foe drew close, Trent suddenly closed his eyes, as he was afraid to see what he was about to do. He felt his blade contact with something solid, and he pushed with all his strength to tear through. He kept his eyes closed tight and a few tears escaped as he felt the warm splash of blood on his face. Trent came to a stop when his blade felt no further resistance against it. He knelt down for a moment as he opened his eyes letting more of his tears fall free. He wouldn’t turn to look back at what he had done. In his heart, he knew his daughters were dead. He suddenly jerked as Beryl drove her clawed hand into his back. She pulled her face close to his from behind and whispered in his ear.

“Too bad,” She mocked his sorrow. “You just barely scratched me. Too bad your little girls didn’t fare so well. So sad…you killed your own children…” Trent didn’t reply, and gritted his teeth against the pain as Beryl dug her hand deeper into his back. “Don’t worry, I’ll send you to join them soon. But first…I want to see you scream…Headstrong Prince!” Trent refused to mutter a cry to satisfy her. Even as Beryl slowly tore him apart from the inside, Trent wouldn’t utter a sound but his tears flowed free as he gazed upward at the moon Titan. Irritated at the Saturnian’s stubbornness, Beryl drove her hand clear through Trent’s body forcing him to spit up blood. She then removed her hand and dropped his body harshly onto the charred ground. She stood over his body and sneered at the man’s pride.

“You’re pride has brought you to this sad state,” Beryl scoffed. “I won’t even satisfy your wish for a quick death.” She walked away and set her sights on the central battle where the Empress still fought. As he lay slowly dying from his wounds, Trent struggled to turn his head skyward.

“S…Sean…son…” Trent choked on his blood. “G…gomen…ne…Forgive me…for be…ing…a fool.”

On Titan:

Sean snapped back into consciousness. He jumped up and found himself in a bunker along with other dignitaries and politicians. He quickly looked around and remembered what had happened. He pushed his way to the exit and ran outside looking around the sky till he focused on the golden planet. The mighty firebird was gone, and Sean felt a cold stab in his heart.

“Dad?” Sean stammered as he fell to his knees. “Mom? S-sisters?” He felt alone and empty. For the first time in his life he knew he was alone. His fears and sorrow filled his heart and his tears fell from his quivering eyes as he continued to gaze at Saturn’s face. However, his sorrow soon turned to fury as he pulled out his Fire and Ice Rapier and hurled himself into battle with the Titan infantry on the invading ground forces. He ripped into the dark forces, all the while throwing off the allied soldiers who tried to pull him back to safety.

In Orbit:

“Sir!” Cortez shouted from the back of the shuttle. “The prince…”

“I know!” Kevin replied. There was a lot of heavy enemy fire all around them “We’re almost there!”

“But sir!” Cortez tried to reach him. “He’s…”

“Later!” Kevin shouted as he maneuvered through the enemy fighters. “I can’t deal with the prince right now!”

“Another one is coming off our port bow.”

“I see it. Re-rout auxiliaries to the shields.”

“Done sir. That should help.”

“I have a lock Kev-chan. I’m taking the shot.” A green flash of light blew past the shuttle then turned and homed into the intended target. The enemy starfighter blew up in a brilliant flame. “Enemy destroyed.”

“Nice shot Mako-chan. Hey escorts, get those fighters off are backs for a few seconds. We need to escape.”

“Roger Jupiter Knight. I have a fighter going to break that follower.”

“Hurry!”

“Kev-chan, I found something I believe to be the mines.”

“Verify that Cortez.”

“She’s right sir. Those imbeciles are so close to us that we could deploy them and they never be able to maneuver.”

“Let’s try it Mako-chan.”

“Mines deployed!” Makoto watched the screen intently and was rewarded by four explosions: Two mines and two enemy fighters. “Targets destroyed. We have one trailer but he’s being picked up.”

“Good, start our run for the Beauty.”

“Can’t sir. Her shields are up and she’s under attack by a few cruisers.”

“For a battleship two cruisers shouldn’t be a problem.”

“If we didn’t use an older battleship and those weren’t now classified as battle-cruisers.”

“Kuso! If we don’t do this, the prince will die. Beauty this is Jupiter Knight. I’m about to pull a very risky maneuver. I will need your shields down for only three seconds.”

“Negative on that. We are heavily involved in a battle.”

“I know but I’m bringing two squadrons with me to help you. I need those shields lowered. I have wounded on board, one critical. You only have to lower the shuttle bay shields. I’ll do the rest.”

“Lowering shields…”

“Activating Sub-hyperspace jump!”

“Kev-chan your crazy!”

“I know! ALL HANDS BRACE FOR IMPACT!!!” The shuttle was almost as fast as light as it sped for the mother ship. Kevin at the last second turned off the hyper drive and hit full reverse with his primaries. The shuttle barreled into the hanger and crashed into the crash net with such intensity it almost broke. However it held but the entire group was shaken. “Beauty, we have landed.”

“Welcome back sir, and princess,” The response came in. “We have you logged and the shields are raised. Medical teams are on the way to assist you and your crew.”

“Good to hear,” Kevin replied. “Stand by on the bridge and await my orders. I’ll be up as soon as we are secured down here.”

“Understood,” The comms cut out. Kevin turned and placed a reassuring hand on Makoto’s shoulder.

“We made it,” He smiled. “Everything will be OK, Mako-chan.” He then walked to the back of the shuttle where Cortez and the rest of the injured were waiting. Kevin wanted to spread the good news until he saw the somber faces on his men.

“Cortez?” Kevin looked worried.

“I was trying to tell you, sir,” Cortez motioned to the rack where Devyen lay. The young prince was motionless and Cortez placed a cloth over Devyen’s face. “He died shortly after we left the planet’s atmosphere. There was nothing we could do to prolong his life any longer. I’m sorry.”

“KUSOOOOOOOOOOO!!!” I’m in deep shit now. I allowed the Prince of Saturn to die. I’m so screwed. Makoto started crying. Kevin wrapped himself around her and he too started to weep.

On Saturn:

Jenn felt a painful stab to her heart as she sensed her brother dying. Keith continued to fight alongside her and protect her as the shock from their losses hit her hardest. Now with her twin brother’s pain, Jenn’s fury was multiplied and her power level grew dealing more devastating blows to the enemy forces. Beryl watched from a distance, waiting for the perfect moment to deal her deadly blow. Beryl turned to one of her most trusted Dark Generals.

“Go to his body,” She ordered. “And finish the job. Make it very painful for him.” The general bowed and pulled out his blade. He returned to the body of Trent as he still lay slowly dying. The general turned the body over so Trent would be looking at him. Then the General thrust his sword into the center of Trent’s chest and twisted the blade. Trent’s whole body writhed as he let out an agonizing scream from the wrenching blow. With one swift motion the general ripped out the blade and proceeded to decapitate the helpless Saturnian. Jenn felt the surge of pain and black death from her brother and nearly collapsed from the shock. Keith held her as she screamed in agony. With her defenses down, Beryl capitalized on the Empress’ momentary ailment, and unleashed her dark ki attack at Jenn’s position. Keith saw the incoming attack, and turned to his wife.

“Jenn!” He shouted and threw her aside as the attack closed in. The assault collided on their position and detonated with a disastrous explosion. Jenn watched as Keith was consumed by the attack and everything went white. Jenn regained consciousness shortly. She was severely injured but managed to pull herself out of the rubble that surrounded her. As she struggled to stand she looked across the battlefield, what was now a devastated wasteland. She continued to look dazed across the landscape until her eyes fell spotted a dark figure emerging from the destruction.

“K-Keith?” Jenn stumbled towards the figure. She still felt he was alive, despite the blast. As she drew near she saw Keith was there, but someone else was with him. Beryl stood holding Keith by the back of the neck as he dangled barely conscious from his injuries.

“J-Jenn,” He was suffering. “Get…Get away…Go…”

“Even as your husband pleads to you,” Beryl laughed. “You just won’t abandon him, will you? Even though you know, you can’t save him. Here, let me do you a favor…” With a sudden twist of her hand, Keith’s neck snapped and he fell limp in her grip. She threw the lifeless body at Jenn and laughed wickedly as the empress took her husband’s body into her arms.

“Keith…” Jenn softly spoke as her tears fell on his peaceful face. “I can’t…bring you back…Without you…what am I?…Where…” Jenn’s shoulders trembled as she buried her face into his body. Beryl powered up another Ki attack.

“I’ll send you to join him,” The witch laughed, as she felt sure of her ultimate victory. She threw the ki at Jenn as she continued to weep into her husband’s body. Suddenly the ki collided with a powerful energy shield stopping it short of Jenn and detonating it safely away from the empress. Beryl stepped back, confused at the sudden turn of events. She tried to power up again, but stopped as she sensed Jenn’s power level surge. Jenn didn’t move, still embracing the body of her beloved as the ground around her began to tremble and shake. Suddenly the ground split and crumbled beneath her as Jenn began to raise her head. Her hair was flowing with the live energy around her and her eyes were illuminated red. Her face was filled with anger, rage, sorrow, and grief. Even Beryl felt fear as she looked into Jenn’s red eyes.

“Revenge…” Jenn’s voice echoed like death. “For my children…for my family…for my Beloved! I will show no mercy! May the deafening Silence of our deaths ring in the ears of those who betrayed us, and show them the pain and horror that descended from the skies! None shall escape my wrath!” Suddenly the whole planet trembled as Jenn summoned all the power from the heart of the planet. The very heart of Saturn, the Star Seed, tore free from the core and came to her summons. Jenn clasped it, bringing forth her energy glaive and raised it high over her head. Suddenly she unleashed a massive amount of energy that tore deep into the planet and consumed all around it. Beryl jumped back and teleported herself out of the area, taking her generals with her. The entire planet of Saturn began to collapse taking allied and enemy troops to her death as Jenn soared out of the atmosphere and turned her sights to Uranus, the kingdom that first abandoned them.

On Titan:

Enemy troops suddenly ceased their advance, as they turned terrified at the destruction of the planet above. Sean and the people of Titan also looked on in horror, as Saturn’s death was clearly visible. Dark forces immediately withdrew, and the people of Titan began to panic and weep. Sean felt his heart drop as the golden planet died in his eyes. The terror of the loss consumed his fear as he realized he needed to get his people off the moon.

“Everyone! Evacuate Titan!” Sean ordered with a heavy heart. “Get to the shuttles and barges! Hurry!” All the people ran for their lives as the effects of their dying mother planet began to tear into Titan. Sean didn’t want to leave his home, but there was no choice anymore. His family was lost, his world destroyed. There was no hope in staying there and dying. Sean merely hoped there was a chance, that maybe, someone else survived.

In Orbit, On Board The Pride:

“SIR!!! MASSIVE ENEGRY READINGS FROM SATURN… SO MASSIVE THAT WE CAN’T DETECT HOW POWERFUL!!!” The helms officer yelled.

“Get us out of here and pick up any survivors along the way. We need to try and rescue as many of these innocent people as we can.”

“Sir… you’re not going to believe this. The Empress is flying away… without a ship and such speed, we have no chance of catching her.”

“Oh no, this is going to get a whole hell of a lot worse. Send word to Jupiter about our present condition.”

“Sir shouldn’t we try to stop her?” The weapons officer protested.

“What’s the point and stop her from what? We can barely protect ourselves. What makes you think that we’ll be able to do anything… and Tylpa has pointed out that we can’t catch her. Head to Titan, most of the survivors are rendezvousing there. We’ll pick them up and head back to Jupiter. Also prepare to recall the fighters so we can make our jump to hyperspace.” Kevin sat down in the command chair.

“Recall being issued and we are heading outbound. What about the remnants of the Saturn Fleet?”

“Tell them they are welcomed to regroup at Jupiter. It seems there isn’t anything else we can do.”

“Approaching Titan now sir. There are lots of refugees and ships hovering around the far side of the moon but the moon is being effected by the death of the home world.”

“And our two cruiser friends?”

“One destroyed and the other being pulverized by the squadrons. We’re clear from enemy fire.”

“Sir, one of the shuttles is hailing us.” The communications officer pointed to a bright light.

“On screen.”

“Greetings,” A face came on screen. “This is Transport shuttle Oracle. Please identify, friend or foe.”

“This is the JRS Jupiter’s Beauty. We are friends to Saturn and enemies of those dishonorable bastards who attacked.”

“Good to see allies in this late hour,” The man breathed a sigh of relief. “However, it seems too little too late to save our world. All moons are evacuating their colonies but we have lost contact with over half of the 31 moons. We currently don’t have any idea if the colonies have survived.”

“Unfortunately, we are heading outbound with what survivors we have. We lost contact with most the moons the Empress moved towards. However we were successful in pulling Tethys’, Encladius’, Mimas’, and Rhea’s survivors. Titan is our last stop. We were here for the wedding when the attack happened. We don’t have the Jupiter Fleet here. If I only had a few more hours I could have come with major reinforcements.” Kevin bowed his head as he fought the tears that were building.

“And what of the royal family?!” A young boy suddenly shoved the soldier aside and filled the view screen. “Have any of them survived? Did you recover any of them at all?!”

“Princess Hotaru is with the Pluto ambassadors and Devyen was with us. The rest stayed behind to defend the planet. Devyen unfortunately passed away after giving his life to protect Princess Makoto. If Hotaru did not survive then the only one that I know of is Sean… if he survived. He was on this moon however. He would be the Crown Prince of what is left. I apologize for this bad news that I have had to say.”

“D-don’t tell me that…” The young boy trembled. “I…I am no prince! I am…the Earl of Titan! That is all!”

“Sir Sean. I am Sir Kevin, the champion known as Jupiter Knight. We need to bring you onboard immediately. Your safety is priority one.”

“You said there was one other…” Sean solemnly replied. “Little Hotaru?”

“Yes, with Princess Setsuna. Princess Hotaru was taken with them but with what’s going on, the Pluto ambassadors are heading to Jupiter for escort from the fleet. We can probably still catch them…”

“Take me to her then,” Sean wiped his eyes. “Please. Take us all to safe haven.”

“We are loading the shuttles now. The transport ships we’ll escort. It seems our star fighters have returned and I recognize those ships as the symbol of the moon of Iapetus. There are more survivors thankfully to bring to safety. Sir Sean, you are cleared to land. The star fighters will remain in flight to help escort these refugees and their convoy.”

On Uranus

It was a peaceful evening on Uranus. The King and Queen were sitting outside watching the evening sky. As they looked towards Saturn’s light, they noticed it shined brighter than normal. This troubled the King.

“What if we were wrong…” The king murmured. His queen looked curiously at him.

“My lord?” She asked. “What troubles you?”

“I feel as though we made a terrible mistake,” He replied. “Perhaps they really do need our help. Call Alex on the Space Carrier, and tell him to mobilize. He’ll have to take Haruka with him since she’s up there too.”

“Are you sure?” The queen asked. Suddenly a messenger broke in.

“My lord!” The messenger was panicked. “Urgent message from our allies on Quinox! They called in a message of grave news! They reported they were under attack, and then we lost the signal!”

“What?!” The king stammered. “Mobilize the fleets! Send half to Investigate Quinox and the other to Saturn! Notify our sister planet Neptune as well!”

“Yes my lord!” the messenger called in the order and the Uranian military began to scramble. Meanwhile up in orbit, on board the Space Carrier Alex and Haruka made preparations to get underway.

“Now your mother sends us cousin Haruka.” Alex sighed. “Talk about waiting for the new eon. We better get moving, UIS Uranus’ Rings full speed ahead to Saturn. We must investigate what our delay has cost the poor Saturnians.”

“Wait a minute, Alex,” Haruka pointed at the screen. “What’s that?”

“Sir!” a soldier reported. “We have a huge energy source incoming directly from Saturn!”

“What?!” The king looked shocked. “Give me a visual! Identify what it is!”

“It looks like a comet!” One soldier reported. “But it host’s life signs! It’s humanoid!”

“That’s not possible!” The queen shouted. “A living humanoid in space, flying at that rate with no ship?! Impossible!” Jenn’s body hurled itself past the military ships and through the ones in her way. She ripped through the atmosphere and plummeted into the surface of Uranus, causing a huge explosion of deafening energy upon impact. The cities began to crumble as the energy wave consumed all and spread across the planet’s surface. The cries of the people echoed on the communication ways and fell silent soon after. Alex and Haruka watched in horror as Uranus crumbled to dust from the assault. On the surface, the king and queen were scrambling to escape from their palace. As soon as they made it outside, they beheld the sight of their reaper as she stood atop a broken pillar wielding her glaive like a Scythe of Death. Her red eyes gleamed as she focused on the royal dignitaries who stood before her. Up in the Space Carrier Haruka demanded a visual of the palace to see if her family was safe. They zoomed in on the scene where the King and queen were cowering before the injured and tattered woman. Then the deathblow as the Maddened Empress claimed both their lives in one final slash. Haruka screamed and stumbled back from the view screen. Jenn’s gleaming eyes then turned skyward. Alex could swear she was looking right at them through the view screen. Then, just as suddenly as she had come, Jenn powered up again and left the surface of Uranus in ruin and far behind as she continued on her mad rampage. All the remaining Uranians could do was watch as she vanished off into the distance. Alex then snapped back and demanded any and all reports from the planet’s surface.

“Nothing sir…” The communication officer stammered. “Just silence…”

“Damn… the cost was greater than I feared. For our silence, we were given a permanent silence. I don’t condone what just happened, but I think I understand why she did what she did. But why show us mercy? I just don’t know what we did to deserve such mercy.” Alex shook his head as he sat back in his command chair.

“How can you say that?!” Haruka shouted to her cousin. “You saw what that mad woman did! She killed everyone! Mother and Father…they were begging for mercy! I won’t forgive her! I won’t forgive any of them!” She ran from the control room and confined herself to her quarters.

“What was the empress’ heading?” Alex asked the navigator.

“Judging by her direct course,” The navigator calculated. “Neptune is her destination.”

“Then we better warn them so they can actually evacuate innocents… if there are truly any of us that are innocent.”

On Jupiter’s Beauty:

“Sir, disturbing report from the UIS Uranus’ Rings. We have lost all contact with Uranus and they explained the Empress apparently laid silence to the planet. They are putting a distress signal warning Neptune of the impending danger.” The communication officer announced to Kevin.

“We are in no position to help. Pluto will be in better position to help. Besides, those reports say that Uranus still has it’s full fleet intact along with all moons and the orbital castle battle station that Queen Serenity gave them. Neptune will more than likely suffer the same consequences.”

“No wonder they were attacked. They were the allies of Saturn and they refused to acknowledge the call to arms.”

“Queen and King were killed but princess and her cousin were allowed to survive, along with entire space-borne military.”

On Neptune:

Urgent message from Uranian fleet!” A messenger announced as he hurried into the royal chambers. “They say the Empress of Saturn has gone mad and has destroyed the entire kingdom! She’s now en-route to here!”

“That’s ridiculous!” The king stammered. “Destroyed Uranus and now is coming here?! Then be on the look out for her ship! Don’t let her through!”

“Michiru, Katori,” The queen summoned her children. “I want the two of you to take our fastest shuttle and take refuge on one of our orbiting fleet ships.”

“But mother,” Katori argued.

“There’s no time to argue,” the Queen insisted. “I want you two to be safe. Now go.” Michiru took her brother’s hand and hurried to the shuttle bay. Soon after they took off the Empress’ light was spotted, fast approaching the planet. The military scrambled their defenses and attempted to intercept the incoming empress.

“Sire!” An Officer reported. “She’s not in a ship!”

“What?!” The king demanded. “How the hell is she able to fly through space like that?!”

“I don’t know sir,” The officer stammered. “But she’s already destroyed three of the intercepting ships without even slowing down!”

“And the shuttle?” The queen asked.

“She is only charging through the ships in her path,” The officer pointed out. “The shuttle is well away from the danger zone.”

“Then prepare for the worst,” The queen grimly replied. “This is our fate.” The empress charged through the planet’s atmosphere and impacted with the planet’s surface. Jenn could feel her body tearing itself apart as she once again unleashed her devastating blow to her former ally. Again, deadly silence engulfed the planet and claimed another kingdom. Michiru and Katori watched from their shuttle as they too witnessed the premature judgment and execution of their parents at the hand of the mad empress. Jenn’s red eyes sent chills down their spines as they embraced each other in sorrow and watched as she flew out beyond Neptune’s orbit.

It was after Jenn left the planet’s atmosphere, her wounds finally took their toll. Her injuries had been fatal since before she left her home world, but with the star seed in her possession and with her decent into grieving madness, it prolonged her life and increased her power. As Jenn’s powers began to fade, she turned her eyes in the direction of her lost empire and shed her final tears.

“My friends…my family…” She wept as the cold of space began to close in on her. “I couldn’t save you…I couldn’t…save…anyone…” Her vision began to white out, and all she could see was the image of her beloved husband smiling and reaching out to her. “My love…” She extended her hand forward to the image. “You…came back…for me…I feel…so…warm…”

On Jupiter:

“Holy mother… that actually happened?” The King asked in disbelief.

“Yes your majesty. The report just came in from the Jupiter’s Beauty.” The soldier who reported the problem saluted. “I apologize for bringing such bad news.”

“I rather I found out about something this horrible now than to wait.”

“The Beauty is coming into Io orbit now… and he’s brought company with him. They are the survivors… the refugees of Saturn, military and all.”

“We can’t turn them away, especially now the youngest heir is with us under our protection. Little Princess Hotaru has suffered so much. They all have nowhere else to go. We haven’t used the moon Callisto for anything and it has quite a nice atmosphere. We can set it up for them then.”

“Thank you. I will relay this message to Jupiter Knight. He requests and audience with you, having the Princess at his side.”

“Yes, I will always listen to my Champion. He saved my daughter from certain death.”

“Actually you majesty, Prince Devyen saved her life.” Kevin said as he walked in.

“That was quick Sir Kevin. Please tell me how Prince Devyen is doing?”

“He’s dead. He died protecting Princess Makoto. Princess Hotaru, as you said is the last remaining heir save for one other…” He pointed to two figures, one male the other female. They both walked in to reveal Makoto and Sean. “Sir Sean is the Earl of Titan… or what’s left of the moon.”

“PRINCE DEVYEN IS DEAD?!!” The King got off his throne. His face was red with anger but it was not directed to either the knight or the princess. The knight started to sweat.

“Yes your majesty. He died valiantly and with honor. I was truly blessed and honored to be in his company, even if it was a short time.” Kevin bowed very low to the King. Some of the generals started to plot however seeing an opportunity.

“I bet he’s just saying that. I bet he killed the Prince. Everyone knows how he feels about Princess Makoto,” Some of them said. Others paid the comments no attention while others yet warned them of their insubordination. Kevin would have no idea how much worse those comments would become. Sean heard some of them though and knew them to be advantage seekers. He couldn’t believe there were dishonorable soldiers in the Jupiter court.

“Sir, I wish to take the fleet to investigate Saturn.”

“Three quarters of the Jovian planets have been eliminated and one inner solar planet has been turned into an asteroid field. Eden is gone. Uranus and Neptune are silenced, Saturn was turned into a gas ball, and now the most disturbing is the reports from Quinox. If anything, you’ll only take a task force to Quinox. Pluto is all alone now with the exception of the remnants of these planets and us as their closest ally. Your main priority is Quinox but any places you happened to come across you are free to investigate. Good Luck Kevin. May you go with honor.”

“Sir,” Kevin bowed. “I would like to take the two Saturn emissaries with me. I believe they will be able to help with my investigation. I would feel better if Princess Makoto stayed here.”

The comments started again. “He’s trying to kill off the rest of the court. Those were his personal troops that attacked Saturn, etc…” They were low enough no one paid them any attention.

“I will go,” Sean replied. “We will have to retrieve Hotaru from the Plutonians if she is to accompany us.”

“Sir Sean. She is with them in the MVP wing of the castle. Makoto can show you the way.” Sean bowed and followed the Jupiter Princess our of the throne room. Upon seeing her cousin, Hotaru ran over to him and dove into Sean’s arms, all the while crying for her papa. Setsuna sat quietly, showing no emotions and appearing as a statue. Kevin and Makoto were in the doorway and bowed and prepared to leave them be. Sean stood quickly with Hotaru in his hand.

“Let us go,” He insisted.

“If you wish. Princess Setsuna, I apologize for your loss. My fleet is ready to escort you and your family back to Pluto if you wish.” Kevin bowed respectfully. Setsuna didn’t reply, but her father accepted the offer. He guided his traumatized daughter and the rest of their dignitaries back to their shuttle and made ready to head home. The shuttle arrived on the JRS Jupiter’s Honor, Jupiter Knight’s flagship that happened to be the most advance battleship in the fleet. It was to be accompanied by a carrier, a battle cruiser, two cruisers, five destroyers, and three frigates. “Next stop, Saturn…”

Hotaru stood quietly as they set a course for her home world. Sean stood by her side and she held tightly to his hand. She knew in her heart that the planet was dead, and her family was gone. All she had left was her cousin, and she didn’t want to let go and lose that one last hope she still clung to. Sean felt the same as he felt her small hand gripping his. He glanced down at her as she leaned into him; her once happy light filled eyes were now dark and filled with sorrow and loneliness. He placed his hand atop her head.

“It’ll be alright,” He assured her. “I’ll watch over you.” Hotaru hugged her cousin tightly as her tears fell free from her eyes. Sean returned his gaze to the main screen as the ship got underway. His thoughts sent a prayer with them. “I will make you proud, Father. I will take care of Hotaru, and secure the legacy of Saturn.”

A tone announced that someone was about to use the ship’s announcing system. “Attention all hands. This is Jupiter Knight. We are coming back into Saturn orbit. I want everyone to keep a vigilant watch for enemy fighters or any stray refugees that need to be picked up. For those wishing to see Saturn… I’m afraid to say it no longer looks the way it used to. Please take a moment to pray for those who fell in today’s treachery. May their souls rest in peace knowing we will do what we can to find out what happened and avenge their deaths. That is all, Jupiter Knight out.”

“Mama…” Hotaru gently murmured. “Where did mama go?”

“To seek vengeance is my guess,” Sean replied. “There’s been no sign of her since Neptune fell silent.”

“I want to find her,” Hotaru tugged at Sean’s sleeve. “Maybe…mama is still out there. Waiting for us.” The order was given and the ships made their heading for the planet of Neptune where the empress was last seen. As the ships scoured the area around Neptune they came across the shuttle bearing the royal twins of Neptune. Michiru was on the verge of hysterics and Katori remained quiet refusing to talk to anyone. As they were given quarter, Hotaru worried that it was her mother that brought them such grief. Finally reports were in that the body of the empress had been recovered.

The doors of the cabin opened and Kevin walked in. "I just got word from one of my scouts that they picked up the Empress' body. She isn't in very good shape however. The scout will be here in one hour."

“Please hurry,” Hotaru whispered. The shuttle arrived within the hour and the body was moved into the Honor’s morgue. With permission from Hotaru and Sean, the crew was prepared to do the autopsy. Kevin arrived before they started and saw the Empress. A calm expression was on her face.

"Sir, why would she have that kind of face after killing millions, if not billions?" One of the techs asked.

"My guess is she was able to avenge the deaths of her comrades and pay back the traitorous Uranus and Neptune. They paid for their silence with silence eternal." Kevin bowed his head in respect for the fallen leader.

"Sir, we are about to..."

"Silence fool. Give a moment of silence for the Empress." The aide nodded his head as the others bowed their heads. Kevin then lifted his head. "Forgive me for that, but I believe she deserves her final respect. Now Mythole, what was it that you wanted to say?"

"Sir, we're ready to move the cloth off of her and do the autopsy."

"I really don't feel right about the autopsy but it looks like it must be done. You may proceed... I just hope we shall be forgiven for this intrusion." Kevin felt a slight clumping around his heart but beat it back. He knew it had to be done. They lifted the curtain and in the Empress' hand was the Saturn Glaive, the horrible weapon that the Empress used to execute her revenge.

"Sir, it's the legenda..."

"Yes, the Glaive that signifies the ruler of Saturn. Please Mythole, remove the Glaive so that we may crown a new Empress this day... incase the enemy is still around, so we may show them that Saturn is not dead... NOT NOW AND NOT EVER!!! LONG LIVE THE ALLIES OF JUPITER!!! LONG LIVE SATURN!!!" Kevin thrust his arm into the air as the other aides did the same.

"Sir, it doesn't feel right to try and take it." Mythole gave one last protest before trying. The Glaive would not leave the dead Empress' hands. "It won't move. She's got a death grip on it."

"Allow me." Kevin went over to the Empress. "Please allow me to take this heavy burden from you and allow you rest eternal." Kevin also tried to move the Glaive but still the Empress would not relent. "I understand. I'm not worthy to hold this weapon alone. Please forgive me for attempting to do so."

“Mama,” Hotaru’s voice caught the attention of everyone in the room. The small princess had entered without making a sound and had stood in the doorway unnoticed until then. She slowly walked towards the table where her mother lay, and the people in the room parted out of her path. She stood alongside her mother and stared with wide tear filled eyes at the peaceful body. Hotaru reached out and gently touched her mother’s hand. The next thing everyone knew, there was a loud cracking sound as the hand of the empress opened and released the Glaive. The Glaive fell into the hands of Hotaru as she stood horrified at the undead movement. The body then jerked and levitated off the table. Everyone took a few steps back as they did not know what to make of these events. A light suddenly shone bright from the Empress’ breast as the Star Seed of Saturn emerged from her body and floated down to Hotaru as well. The body then returned to it’s place on the table, as Hotaru stood mesmerized by both the Glaive and Star Seed in her hands.

“It is done, then” Sean spoke as he too had witnessed the events. “Your mother has passed on the Holy Artifact and the Heart of Saturn to you.” Sean walked over to Hotaru and placed the Star Seed on the front of Hotaru’s gown and it changed into a star-like pendant. “You are to carry on the legacy, and the Empire will live on.”

“Then she officially recognizes you as the Heir Princess Hotaru. Please allow my ship to conduct your coronation so that you may officially be recognized. Your status as Queen shall come when you are older.”

“Her coronation was to be conducted when she turned twelve,” Sean replied. “But I guess there is no other option.”

“Shall we continue with the autopsy?” One of the crewmembers asked. Hotaru looked at them with stern eyes.

“No,” She firmly spoke. “Mama…the Empress wants to go home and rest with the family. Have her body cleaned and dressed and prepare her for jettison in a proper coffin capsule. Prepare my brother as well. We will send them home together.” With her order given Hotaru left the room again with tear filled eyes. Sean followed her close behind.

“Wrap her body in the ceremonial robes that we have. Prepare one of torpedoes for launch and make sure to drape it in the flag of Saturn. Also give her a flag of her own to hold when we prepare jettison. Do the same for the prince as well.”

“Why sir?”

“So she may forever remember the good times and what that flag meant to her.”

Hotaru retreated to her quarters and lay on her bed weeping into her pillow. Sean sat by her, unable to offer a comforting word since he himself was on the verge of crying.

“Hotaru? Sean spoke with a choked up voice. “Why did you give that order?”

“Because…” She looked up and over to the Glaive in her hand. “I remember something…Papa once said…”

Her memories returned her to the warmth of the palace when she was younger. She remembered many times her mother was gone on important business on other planets and her father would spend days in the main control room waiting for Jenn to call in.

“Papa!” Hotaru ran up to her father.

“Hotaru?” Keith turned and picked up his youngest daughter. “What are you doing here? It’s way past your bed time.”

“But papa,” Hotaru looked at him with a sour face. “You’re still awake. Not even Atrus is up like this. Why don’t you go to sleep too?”

“I can’t Hotaru,” Keith smiled warmly. “I have to do something important.”

“Like what?” She looked at her father curiously.

“It’s kind of hard to explain,” Keith looked up at the view screen. “I’m waiting for your mother.”

“Mama?” Hotaru pouted. “But she’s not here.”

“I know,” Keith laughed. “I’m waiting for her to come home. I’ve been like this since we got married. Ever since our last adventure together, before we had a family, I couldn’t relax unless she and I were together. Thus I can never rest until she comes home.”

“Oh,” Hotaru replied. “But what if she is gone for a really long time?”

“Then I will wait,” Keith sighed. “It is the depth of my love for her. For as long as it will take. For all eternity, I will wait to be rejoined with your mother.”

“I will make sure,” Hotaru looked at Sean. “All the spirits are laid to rest, and no one will suffer ever again. Mama, papa, brothers and sisters, and even uncle and auntie. They will all lie together in peace and together they will watch over us and protect us.”

“Hotaru…” Sean wiped his tears from his eyes. He reached over and hugged her tightly as she began to cry into his shoulder. “I hope you are right. I really do.”

End…this Chapter.
